First Class Mail

All first class mail received Monday thru Friday before 3:30 PM will be processed the same day.

Stamps

Mail Services sells stamps individually, in books of 20, or in coils of 100. Payment can be made by cash, check, or department purchase requisition. Inventory is limited; therefore requests for large quantities of stamps must be made 1-2 weeks in advance by calling extension 1124.

Metered Mail

Metered mail is any mail imprinted with postage directly on the mailpiece. College metered mail is processed on campus the day it is received in Mail Services.
Outgoing metered mail should be nested and must have a department transmittal (account #) label in front. Small quantities can be rubber banded. Please request trays or tubs from Mail Services for large quantities. Include a transmittal in the front of each tray or on the top of each tub.

Priority Mail

Priority mail is first class mail weighing over 13 ounces. Any mail weighing less than 13 ounces can be "upgraded" to priority by placing $3.85 postage on the mailpiece.
Priority mail is advertised as 2-3 days, but is not a guaranteed service. The minimum charge is $3.85 and increases with weight. The maximum weight is 70 lbs. and the maximum size is 108 inches in length and girth combined. A limited supply of priority boxes and envelopes are available at the Mail Services at no charge.

Express Mail

Express mail is the guaranteed overnight service offered by the USPS. It is the only expedited service that can deliver to a post office box address. Rates begin at $13.65. However, since the college has a contract for reduced rates with FedEx, we only use this service for mailing to post office box addresses.

For all other expedited services, click here FedEx.

Standard Mail (A)

Formerly known as bulk mail, Standard Mail (A) is used for mail weighing less than 16 ounces that is not required to be sent as first class. Significant savings can be achieved by taking advantage of Standard Mail (A) rates. However, delivery times can take from 2-6 weeks. To qualify for the rates, your mailing must be a minimum of 200 identical pieces.
The USPS has placed significant restrictions on the use of Standard Mail (A) rates and even more restrictions for the lower non-profit rates. Inquiries regarding qualifications or preparation of your mailing should be directed to Ron Corll, Manager of Mail Services extension 1391.

Mail Services will provide you with postal trays to prepare and transport your mailing, or we will arrange a special pick up. In the front of each tray place a lavender bulk label and your blue department label directly behind it. Include an accurate count of the number of pieces for the mailing on the first lavender label.

Standard Mail (B)

Also known as parcel post, this service is for parcels weighing 1 lb. or more that are not required to be sent first class. Delivery goal is 2-9 days, but may take more than 2 weeks. Maximum weight is 70 lbs and the maximum size is 108 inches length and girth combined. Packages between 108 & 130 inches will be charged at the oversize rate. We suggest you compare this service to UPS ground before making your shipping decision. Mail Services staff would be happy to assist you.

Periodicals

Only publishers and registered news agents approved for Periodicals mailing privilege may mail at the Periodicals rates of postage.

Certified Mail

Certified mail provides sender with a mailing receipt. A record of delivery is kept at the recipient's post office. A return receipt to provide the sender with proof of delivery can also be purchased for an additional fee. Certified mail is not available for international mail, and it does not offer insurance protection. Certified mail is available at Mail Services for $2.30 plus basic postage and the return receipt charge (if desired). For valuables or irreplaceable items, use insured registered mail (available at the US Post Office only) or send using another carrier.

Return Receipt

Return receipt is the sender's proof of delivery. A return receipt can be purchased for mail sent Express Mail, Priority Mail, or certified mail for $1.75. The return receipt shows who signed for the item and the date that it was delivered.

Registered Mail

Registered mail is the most secure service the United States Postal Service offers. It is for this reason that registered mail is only available through the United States Post Office.

Delivery Confirmation

This service is available only with priority mail and Standard Mail (B). It provides confirmation of the delivery date and time - it does not guarantee delivery by a certain date and time. Costs in addition to the postage are: priority mail $.55, Standard Mail (B) $.65.

Postage Due

Charges are accepted by Mail Services and charged back to the departments monthly or to students on an as needed basis.

Ancillary Services

These include forwarding, return, or address correction services included within a mail class. Depending on the mail class, there may or may not be an additional charge. Contact Mail Services for assistance in determining which ancillary endorsement best services the need of your mailing.
