Past Special Projects
Project Butterfly was conceived as a pilot project with the aim to further develop the media in southern Africa, particularly in Namibia, by seeking to establish standards of knowledge and practice among mid-career journalists and media professionals. The project was headed up by Professor of Communications Dr. Tamara Gillis and Emeritus Professor of Communications Robert Moore. Dr. Gillis maintains a reference site for the currently inactive project.
Project Swaziland was an advanced course in the study of current media initiatives, this course emphasizes connections between communities and their media, particularly print and broadcast. Using an investigative approach, coupled with case study analyses, participants develop an understanding and appreciation for civic/community journalism, its practices, and its development and implications for global communications.
