EC Alert Test Information

Elizabethtown College will test the EC Alert system once per semester. The test likely will occur in the late afternoon or early evening hours.

During the fall 2009 semester, EC Alert will be tested Thursday, September 17 at 4 p.m.

During the spring 2010 semester, EC Alert will be tested Thursday, February 18 at 4 p.m.

During the EC Alert test, messages will be sent to faculty, staff and traditional students via College e-mail boxes and office and/or cellular phones. The parents/guardians of our traditional students will receive the test message at the telephone number and e-mail addresses provided by the student. Additionally, CCEDL students who have been enrolled in a class at the Elizabethtown College campus during the current semester will receive the message at the e-mail address and phone number that they provided when they enrolled.

During the fall 2009 test, a text message also will be sent to the cellular phones of our faculty, staff and traditional and CCEDL students. This capability will not be tested during the spring 2010 scheduled test.

The test message that you receive via telephone will say something similar to the following:

“Hello. This is [name and title of caller] at Elizabethtown College. I am sending this message on behalf of Elizabethtown College’s Emergency Management Group. This message is our once-a-semester test of the EC Alert system. In a real emergency, EC Alert messages would provide you with instructions about actions you should take or direct you to a source of information about the emergency. Again, this is only a test.

For more information about EC Alert, please go to the Emergency Action Plan website at www.etown.edu/EmergencyActionPlan.

Thank you for your participation in EC Alert.”
