Minors


The Department of English offers minors in literature and professional writing. Each minor requires 5 courses (20 credits) distributed as follows:

Literature: Two British or American courses numbered 200, 220, 230, or 240; one 300-level literature course; one 400-level authors course; one elective in literature or writing, 185 or higher. Note: one 300-level or 400-level course must be a pre-1800 course.

Professional Writing: English 185; two 200- or 300-level writing courses; one 200-level British or American literature course; one 300- or 400-level literature course.

Creative Writing: The Creative Writing Minor requires six courses from those listed below. All minors take CW 386 as an interdisciplinary capstone course their junior or senior year. Of the five elective courses, at least four courses must be writing-based, and no more than three of the elective courses may be taken from the same department. It is recommended that students with limited experience in creative writing take EN 180 early in their course of study.
