Chlamydia----Gonorrhea------HIV
- Chlamydia may be one of the most dangerous STD's among women today.
- The rate of gonorrhea is rising for the first time in 2 decades. An increase of 8.8% in men and more than 9% in women.
- 75%of women and 50% of men have NO signs or symptoms of chlamydia or gonorrhea.
- Women with chlamydia are 3 to 5 times more likely to contract HIV if exposed to the virus.
- If untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. One in 5 women with PID becomes infertile.
- HIV infection in on the rise again.
- Two people between the ages of 13 and 21 years old become infected with HIV every hour of every day.
- 25% of new infections in the United States are found in people between the ages of 13 and 21.
Testicular Cancer
College age men should be aware of testicular cancer. Testicular cancer is a highly treatable and usually curable form of cancer commonly found in the 15 to 35 year old age group. The American Cancer Society estimates 7200 new cases in 2000. The cure rate exceeds 90%.
Risk Factors

The main risk factor is undescended testicles. This is found in about 3% of boys.
- Family history
- Occupational risks: Exposure to certain occupational chemicals may contribute to the development of the disease
- White American men are five times more likely to develop testicular cancer than African American men and more than double that of Asian American men. Risk for Hispanics is intermediate between that of Asians and non Hispanic whites.
Testicular cancer has more than doubled among white Americans in the past 40 years, but has remained the same for African Americans. Regular self-examination is your best chance of early detection.
Signs & Symptoms
- Change in size or weight of your testicles
- A swelling in one part of a testicle which can be painless
- A dull ache in the scrotum, groin, lower abdomen or lower back
- A sore or small patch on the shaft or the tip of the penis that irritates and won't heal
