Services Information
Elizabethtown College's Information & Technology Services offers a variety of services to its campus community members, including the following.
Blackboard
Blackboard is a tool used by teachers to enhance the learning process of students. It serves as an online addition to many classes and allows teachers to post notes, news, homework, and quizzes that is available to students outside of the classroom. Blackboard also offers the ability for teachers to post grades and discussions forums on the web.
Cable Television
All academic buildings, offices, residence halls, and public lounges are wired for cable TV. The system provides high quality Fiber Optic transmission of the Basic and Standard Comcast Cable lineup, including educational programming such as C-SPAN I, C-SPAN II , PBS, CNN, CNN Headline News, Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel, Arts and Entertainment, and local and national news.
ECWeb Registration
Instituted in 2003, all class registration is now conducted online. Students are given a pin number from their advisor which allows them to sign into ECWeb and schedule and drop classes from any computer connected to the internet. ECWeb also plays host to student grades at the end of the semester. The ECWeb system also allows students to access financial information, pay bills, access grades, and an array of other information.
Electronic Mail
All faculty, staff, and students are assigned an e-mail address upon affiliation with the college. These e-mail accounts are active until six months after leaving the college. E-mail accounts use the same username and password as the network log-in.
Gaming Systems
Students can use gaming consoles in residence, however, ITS does not support or guarantee operation. To connect a system (XBox, Playstation, Nintendo, TiVo, etc.) please obtain a registration paper from ITS. Your device's media access control (MAC) address is necessary for permission on the network.
My E-town
A portal-like design that is a one-stop location for vital, easy to access campus community resources. It includes links to Campus News, technology services, academics, events, campus policies, and the Elizabethtown community.
Network Directories
All faculty, staff, and students have access to folders that reside on the network servers. These directories include a private folder to store information that only that user can access, a public folder and which all accounts are able to view. Also available, for some classes, are class directories which allow students to save data to folders for their professors to view and the professor can also save files to their folders. The fourth folder is an applications folder which offers a selection of software and utilities helpful to the college community.
Users Web Server
Also available to all faculty, staff, and students is the ability to create a web page that resides on the college server (http://users.etown.edu). This is a fully functional web server that offers students the opportunity to publish web pages, résumés, and pictures to share with family, friends, and colleagues.
Update Server (on-campus)
Provides all current students of Elizabethtown with software and licensing to run the latest version of Symantec AntiVirus, in addition to our anti-spyware application to help protect your system from new vulnerabilities.
VPN Remote Access
Students, faculty, and staff members who live off-campus and have high-speed internet access at their residence have the ability to take advantage of the college's VPN Remote Access system. This service allows the user to access network resources from off-campus. To have an account activated, please visit Client Services in Nicarry Hall, Room 108.
