Tracy Yenolevich (’06): “The AU International Environment and Development program provided me with a 13 week seminar and a 3 week field practicum in Brazil. Throughout the seminar I met with leading experts on the topics involved in international environment and development. Some of the issues we covered were economic and social development, poverty, debt relief, global warming, climate change, tropical deforestation, and much more. The field practicum in Brazil for three weeks was to bring everything from the seminar together and put it in context. We discussed and saw many of the issues surrounding environment and development first hand. We visited the parts of Rio de Janeiro called favelas where the poverty is so bad that people live without everyday necessities. We visited the Amazon and talked with scientists about deforestation and the research they are doing on it. This semester was life-changing for me. I have had the opportunity to see so many different options for my future direction and career through this program.” (Internship: FreeThePlanet!)
