Kevin Scott, assistant professor of English

As director of English education at Elizabethtown College, Scott supervises student teachers and teaches methods courses as well as courses in American literature and cultural history for the English department and the Hershey Honors Program.

Scott has an article forthcoming in Studies in the Novel titled "There’s More Honor: Reinterpreting Tom and the Evasion in ‘Huckleberry Finn.’" His work typically uses historical and cultural context to provide clues for understanding literary and other artistic works and the individuals and eras that created them.

Scott is currently working on a cultural biography of William Sidney Mount, the American painter who, before the Civil War, was credited with leading the charge for an American art separate that went beyond European tradition. He received his B.S. from Ball State University, his M.A from Iowa State University, and he did his Ph.D. work at Purdue University.
