Charles D. Schaeffer Jr., A.C. Baugher Professor of Chemistry

Schaeffer earned a bachelor's degree (with honors) in chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College and a doctorate in chemistry from SUNY-Albany. He completed postdoctoral work at Yale University for two years before joining Elizabethtown College's faculty in 1976 as an assistant professor of chemistry.

Schaeffer earned several honors as an undergraduate, including the 1970 Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemicstry from the American Chemical Society. He was also one of 25 U.S. participants selected to attend the first China-Japan-USA Seminar on Organometallic Chemistry in 1980 at Peking, People's Republic of China. He earned the John Frederick Steinman Award for Excellence in Research from Elizabethtown in 1985 and was named the A.C. Baugher Associate Professor of Chemmistry in 1987.
