Gabriela R. Sanchis, associate professor of mathematical sciences
A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sanchis earned a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and doctorate from the University of Rochester in the area of probability. Before obtaining her doctorate, she worked as an actuary and passed several exams to become an associate of the Society of Actuaries. In 1992, she was awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF) that enabled Elizabethtown’s Department of Mathematical Sciences to set up a computer laboratory and incorporate the use of technology into many of its mathematics courses. She was recently awarded another grant from the NSF to write a textbook supplement to incorporate historical material into courses taken by future teachers of mathematics.
