U of Penn prof to discuss Pennsylvania German broadsides at Elizabethtown College

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – A University of Pennsylvania professor emeritus will present a program on Pennsylvania German broadsides – mass-produced printed sheets of songs, elegies, and certificates of birth, baptism, marriage and death – at 7:30 p.m., April 6, at Elizabethtown College’s Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. Don Yoder’s talk is open to the public free of charge.

Yoder’s program is based on his recent book, “The Pennsylvania Broadside,” which accompanies a current exhibit at the Library Company of Philadelphia (www.librarycompany.org). He is professor emeritus of religious studies and folklore and folklife at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as past president of the American Folklore Society and co-founder of the Pennsylvania Folklife Society.

At Elizabethtown College -- central Pennsylvania’s premier small, comprehensive college -- 1800 men and women enjoy personal attention, breadth of curriculum, experiential learning and a commitment to serving others. Elizabethtown has been ranked for 12 consecutive years by “U.S. News and World Report” as one of the top comprehensive colleges in the North.
