Elizabethtown College to present free children’s play
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College’s theatre program will present the children’s play “Yearning to Breathe Free” at noon, April 20, in Tempest Theatre. The production, which is suitable for children age 5 and up, is open to the public free of charge.
The show is presented by students enrolled in the class “Performing Children's Theatre,” and is currently on tour to local elementary schools. Written by Kathryn Schultz Miller, “Breathe” centers on Rafael, a young man from a fictional Caribbean island who dreams of a better and easier life. He takes off for America, only to find that everyone there is not rich, and that candy does not fall from the sky. But America gives him a great gift – the realization that a better life means taking responsibility, no matter where you live.
Located in southeastern Pennsylvania, Elizabethtown offers its 1900 students more than 50 academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences and professional studies. Driven by its motto to “Educate for Service,” Elizabethtown centers learning in strong relationships, links classroom instruction with experiential learning, emphasizes international and cross-cultural perspectives and nurtures the capacity for lives of purpose.
