E-town College student organizes concert to benefit Lititz church’s disaster relief fund
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – An Elizabethtown College student is planning a Hurricane Katrina benefit concert as part of her senior honors project. The event, organized by occupational therapy major Lindsay Rowe of Berwyn, will be held at 7 p.m., Jan. 27, in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5, and all proceeds will go to Grace Brethren Church of Lititz’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Rowe is a music minor and president of the College’s female a cappella group Melica. She chose to put together the benefit concert because she thought it “would allow me to use my skills and resources to help others. I encourage everyone to come out for a night of great entertainment to help some very deserving people.”
A number of Elizabethtown College students will perform at the event, including junior Spencer Butz of Bethlehem; senior Maria Smith of Berwyn; junior senior Mike Masters of Medford, N.J.; junior Nichelle Tolbard of Sewell, N.J.; and members of Melica. A member of Grace Brethren’s volunteer team that traveled to Louisiana will also speak. The group is planning a third mission to help Katrina victims at the end of February.
To complete her senior honors project in occupational therapy, Rowe will also research volunteerism, write a thesis on the topic and present a talk to faculty and students.
