E-town College’s Center for Continuing Ed to offer creative writing class for high-school students
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – High-school students interested in honing their writing skills while earning credits for college are invited to enroll in a one-week class being offered this summer by Elizabethtown College’s Center for Continuing Education and Distance Learning.
The class, available to students entering 11th or 12th grade, will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 26 to 30, at Elizabethtown College. Students who enroll will be introduced to the elements of creative writing through the genres of poetry, short story, essay and drama.
Teaching the course will be Lyn Shaffer, gifted education coordinator for Elizabethtown High School and an adjunct faculty member with the Center for Continuing Education. Shaffer earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master of education degree. Prior to her career in education, she worked for three years as a freelance journalist for the Lifestyle section of the Lancaster Intelligencer-Journal. Her prize-winning short story “Jesse Dear” and poems “Unwanted Reflection” and “Memories” are published in Penn State’s literary magazine, The Tarnhelm.
