Welcome to the Home of the 2006 Indoor Track & Field Champions

Elizabethtown College added the sport of men's and women's track & field in 1998-99. ETown participated in the Indoor MAC Championships for the first time in 1999. The Blue Jays participated in the Outdoor MAC Championship for the first time in 2000.

ETown Women’s Indoor Track & Field …

Since 2001, the ETown women's indoor track & field team has finished amongst the top four teams at the Middle-Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.  But it was in 2006 when the Blue Jay women finally stood atop the conference and won their first and only MAC team title in track & field.  The women's indoor team has produced 52 First-Team All-MAC athletes and 28 Indoor MAC Individual or Relay Champions since 1999. The highest-ever finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships was 13th in 2004. ETown had two All-American performances at the 2004 indoor national championships with Melissa St. Clair finishing 3rd in the 5000m and Carrie Kerna finishing National Runner-Up in the 55m high hurdles.  Three-time All-American, Carrie Kerna set the school record in the 55HH at 8.21 at the 2004 MAC Indoor T&F Championships.  Melissa St. Clair set her indoor 5000m school record of 17:18.19 at the 2004 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. At the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, Tiffany Kulp ran the mile in 5:02.07 and went on to finish 10th in the nation.

ETown Women’s Outdoor Track & Field …

Outdoor Track & Field is the only team of our six sports to yet win a conference title. The team is regularly in the hunt having finished amongst the top four teams every year since 2003. The highest-ever team finish came in 2006 when they finished 2nd out of 10 teams with 156 points (23-1/2 points out of first place). The women’s outdoor track & field team has produced 38 First-Team All-MAC athletes and 27 Outdoor MAC Individual or Relay Champions since 2000. Between 2001-04, Carrie Kerna won every high hurdle race at the indoor or outdoor conference championships going 8-for-8 as the high hurdle MAC Champion over four years. During the regular season the women’s team has produced some outstanding 4X100m and 4X400m performances having provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in both the 4X100m and 4X400m relays. ETown held the meet record (3:57.64) and won the MAC/Centennial 4X400m relay at The Penn Relays Carnival for three years in-a-row (2004-2006).

Elizabethtown College has had representation at every NCAA women’s outdoor track & field championship since 2004. The highest-ever finish came at the 2004 championships with a 15th place team finish. At the 2004 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, both Carrie Kerna (100HH) and Melissa St. Clair (10,000m) finished National Runner-Up and both went on to earn All-American in another event—Kerna in the 400 intermediate hurdles and St. Clair in the 5000m.

In 2006, senior Erin Lichti demonstrated the awesome development many of our athletes experience over four years. Lichti came from a small, rural high school in Nebraska and had run 26.8 hand-held for 200m. Four years later, in May, 2006, Lichti was the last qualifier to make the national field having run 25.02. She was ranked 20th in the country in the 200m. During her preliminary round race in her only national championship appearance, she ran a personal best time of 24.90 and barely missed the finals by one place. She finished 10th at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and broke the 25-second barrier for the first time to conclude a brilliant career.

In 2007 and 2008, Erin Fisher advanced to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  Over four years, Fisher would improve from a 12:07 3200m runner at Warrior Run HS to a 17:20.60 5000m and 36:00.52 10,000m collegiate distance runner at ETown.  Arguably the greatest cross country runner in ETown history, Fisher took to the track in 2008 aiming to break Melissa St. Clair's school records in the 5k (17:14.79) and 10k (35:46.62).  Erin Fisher's attempt at the 2008 NCAA Division III Track & Field Champinships held at UW-Oshkosh came up just 14 seconds shy of St. Clair's record over the 6.2 mile race.  Ranked 10th going into the 10,000m at the national championships, Fisher peaked when it mattered most. Her 7th place finish, in a personal best time of 36:00.52, yielded the sixth All-American performance in the history of our women's outdoor track & field program. Two days later, Fisher concluded her collegiate career by competing in the 5000m.  Ranked 18th going into the her final race, she ran 17:28.60 and finished 11th or just three places shy of All-American honors.

Current senior Tiffany Kulp joined Erin Fisher at the 2008 Outdoor T&F Championships. Kulp qualified for the NCAA championships having run 4:36.03 in the 1500m (= 4:56.4 1600m) at the Swarthmore Last Chance meet in May. At nationals, Kulp concluded her junior year with a 17th place finish in the 1500m and nine spots shy of All-American honors.
