For his research paper for History of Modern Japan, David Bresnahan
knew that he wanted to investigate the impact of the Japanese diaspora
on globalization. Human diaspora is the forced migration of a
population away from its traditional homeland and culture.
After
discussing this concept with his faculty mentor, Dr. David Kenley,
David decided to study Alberto Fujimori’s presidency of Peru. Drawn to
this topic because of the convergence of influences from Japan, the
Organization of American States, the United States, and Peru’s South
American neighbors, David is fascinated by the merging of elements of
various cultures and the implications that these hybrid cultures have
at both the local and international level.
