"I really feel like the Etown Biology Department gave me a great foundation for my medical education. When I got to medical school, I felt very well-prepared."
Kaitlyn Snyder Tyrie graduated in the class of 2011 with a BS in Biology with a PreMed Concentration. She always new that she wanted to attend medical school after earning her undergraduate degree. "I really feel like the Etown Biology Department gave me a great foundation for my medical education. When I got to medical school, I felt very well-prepared."
Kaity is now a third-year medical student at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA and is considering applying for residencies in either Obstetrics and Gynecology or Pediatrics.
Along with her academically challenging classes, the close-knit feeling of the biology department allowed Kaity to build relationships with the faculty that enabled her to participate in research. Working in Dr. Debra Wohl's lab, Katie's research explored the relationship between intrapartum antibiotic use and subsequent development of asthma in children. This research helped her to fulfll research requirements in medical school, and she is hopeful that it will result in a publication in a major journal.
While at Elizabethtown, Kaity not only excelled academically, but participated in extracurricular activities as well. Among her activities, she was a member of the women's basketball team for her four years. "There are a lot of opportunities at Elizabethtown to get involved in both academic and other activities."
