I chose history as a major because of its intellectually stimulating topics and the critical thinking it involves. My favorite area of history is European history, specifically the birth of the modern age in France, and nineteenth-century European history. Pairing my history major with a communications minor allowed me to translate skills of historical research to the fields of business and communications. Majoring in history has helped me expand the ways in which I think and develop creative new ideas. I am now employed by Potomac Advisory Group, Inc., an outsourced sales and marketing firm in Alexandria, Virginia, which deals with telecommunications companies such as Verizon and T-Mobile. History’s primary tools—critical thinking and vigorous research—have enabled me to become more business savvy and excel in the field of business communications.
