After graduating from Elizabethtown’s History program in May 2015, I decided to take a gap year to gain more experience in the museum field. I spent four months as an intern at The Little Museum of Dublin, Ireland. I started with small tasks, but within a short while I was undertaking major projects: helping the Director research a biography of Alfie Byrne, assisting the Director of Development with an application for museum funding, and assembling exhibitions.
After seeking recommendations from the Director, Curator, and Director of Development, I applied and gained entrance to University College Dublin’s MA program in Cultural Policy and Arts Management. My coursework takes a practical look at management of a cultural institution and will provide me with the tools to do anything from starting my own festival to managing an art gallery. Elizabethtown’s History faculty helped me hone my application, and their courses readied me for graduate school. I have stayed in communication with my mentors since graduation, and I am so grateful for everything they have done for me.
