Fieldwork Level 2
The OT Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (ACFW) begins the process for level II placement in the junior year for the first level II scheduled after the 4th year. Students complete selection sheets listing their preferences (choosing at least 3 from the 350+ sites with which the department contracts) and submit to the ACFW by mid March of the junior year.
Students' sites are confirmed typically 9-12 months prior to starting level II fieldwork to allow sufficient time for finding housing and working out other details. Potential sites include private and public hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, Veterans’ Administration services, early intervention, acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, jails, schools, private practitioners, clinics, outpatient settings and nontraditional settings.
The student’s primary supervisor must be an occupational therapist who has graduated from a World Federation of Occupational Therapy -approved program. This supervisor must provide 8 hours per week minimum supervision and have been certified as an occupational therapist for at least 1 year. Students can be placed abroad if the experience can be arranged with available, qualified therapists. Additional expenses related to non-US experiences are solely the student’s.
