Music Performance Scholarships are
awarded to outstanding performing musicians
(regardless of major) who meet the challenges of
Elizabethtown's academic environment. Awards range
in size up to $4,000 annually and are renewable for
four years. Vocal, keyboard, and instrumental
performers are invited to audition.
Eligibility: Students must apply and be accepted to Elizabethtown College prior to the audition. Scholarships are open to music and non-music majors. Scholarships are awarded to first-year and transfer students and are open to instrumental, vocal, and keyboard (piano and organ) performers. Students may audition in a maximum of two performing areas.
The dates for scholarship consideration are:

Requests must be received one week prior to the selected audition date.
Selection Process: Awards are given on the basis of musical performance and ability as demonstrated at the audition. Needs of musical ensembles will be considered in the selection process.
Scholarship Obligations: Scholarship winners must participate in a College music ensemble identified by the College and take private music lessons for credit in their primary performing areas to maintain their scholarships. Students must receive "pass" grades in the ensembles and no less than "B-" in the lessons to remain eligible for the scholarship.
All applicants to Elizabethtown College who intend to audition for the Music Performance Scholarship should complete and return an Audition Request Form. Upon receipt of the form, the time and place for the audition-interview will be confirmed.
Audition Preparation– Prospective students should:
• Audition on at least one instrument (voice is considered an instrument) on a suitable level (see literature information). Students are encouraged to audition on more than one instrument if they are qualified to do so.
• Prepare minimum of two selections from contrasting style periods on one instrument.
Sight-reading on one’s primary instrument is expected.
• Supply an accompanist, if possible. If this is not possible, you may request an accompanist at least two weeks in advance of your audition date.
Please note: The use of reproduced copyrighted music, for soloist or accompanist, is strictly forbidden and will result in disqualification.

Will complete the following additional tasks on the audition day:
Diagnostic Exams (Music Majors ONLY) At the audition-interview all students will complete exams in:
• Music theory (rhythm, meter, note reading, scales, key signatures, intervals, harmony)
• Aural Skills (identification of basic melody, rhythmic and harmonic materials)
• Sight singing (singing of basic diatonic melodies without accompaniment)
• Keyboard (note names, hand placement, reading grand staff)
Program Interview: An interview will be held with the coordinator of the program of study the student wishes to pursue. This interview is intended to assess readiness to enter a specific degree program and to help prospective students understand the goals and requirements of the program. Baccalaureate degrees in Music Therapy, Music Education and Liberal Arts are offered by the Department. Details may be found in the College catalog.

- Within two weeks of the audition-interview, the entire Music Division will review each application and make recommendations to our Admissions Office.
- Each applicant will be notified of his or her status in writing.
- Notification of scholarship awards and/or acceptance into the music program can only take place after applicants have been formally accepted into the College by the Office of Admissions.
