ETOWN DEFEATS REGIONALLY RANKED JOHNS HOPKINS, 5-3, PITTINGER TIES SEASON SAVE RECORD

ELIZABETHOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown pitchers Derik Aasan (Cary, NC/Smithtown) and Bryan Pittinger (Westminster, MD/South Carroll) effectively silenced the thunderous bats of Johns Hopkins as Etown won 5-3 Thursday.

Johns Hopkins entered the game ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region with a 15-3 record and averaging over 12 runs scored per game. Aasan started on the mound for Elizabethtown and pitched eight innings, giving up three runs in the fourth inning and blanking Johns Hopkins in all other frames. He improved his record to 3-1. Pittinger closed out the game for his fourth save of 2000, tying Elizabethtown's program record for most saves in a season.

Elizabethtown's offense ignited early as Tim Downing (St. James, NY/Smithtown) doubled in the first inning and was driven home by a home run hit by Chris Turtell (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst). Chris Romig (Beavertown, PA/West Snyder) immediately followed with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and was sent home on a single by Jared Ness (McPherson, KS/McPherson), making the score 3-0 in Etown's favor after one inning.

After Johns Hopkins tied the game at three in the top of the fourth inning, Elizabethtown struck back in the bottom half by scoring two more runs. Ness was driven in by Ken Glass (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills), and Glass was in turn driven home by Jeff Peterson (Seaford, DE/Seaford).

Elizabethtown (10-7) returns to action at home Saturday in a Middle Atlantic Conference doubleheader against Lebanon Valley. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

ELIZABETHOWN, Pa. --- It was a wild ride, but in the end Elizabethtown came out on top Tuesday with a 13-7 victory over Dickinson in a game which saw totals of eight errors and nine unearned runs.

Following three innings fought to a 0-0 draw, Dickinson (3-10) scored three runs in the top of the fourth off of Etown starter Jay Stasi (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley). However, only one of the runs was earned. Of five runs Stasi gave up, only two were earned.

Dickinson came right back in the top of the fifth inning, scoring four runs on to take a 7-2 lead. Again, only one run scored in the inning was earned, and the Red Devils had no base hits in the fifth. Two batters reached first via walks, one was hit by a pitch, and two reached base and drove in runs through errors.

From the sixth inning on, Elizabethtown held Dickinson scoreless. Etown also began to chip away at the Red Devils' lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs. Ness, Dixon, Jeff Peterson (Seaford, DE/Seaford), and Brad Heilman (York, PA/Spring Grove) led off the inning with four consecutive singles.

Elizabethtown took the lead for good upon scoring seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Blue Jays cycled through 12 batters in the inning.

Ness batted four for four with a double and three runs scored, Dixon hit three for four with a double and four RBI, and Tyler Comp (Enola, PA/East) had three RBI and two runs scored for the Blue Jays.
