Pa. --- Elizabethtown's record stands at 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the
Commonwealth Conference following a split doubleheader with Susquehanna
University (5-9, 1-5) at home Sunday. Etown won the first game 7-2 and
lost the second game 4-2. In the opening game, Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) started on the mound for Etown and pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out 11 batters. Luongo also batted 2-for-4 with a run scored in the game. Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) batted 2-for-4 with a three-RBI home run and one run scored. Jon Kalejta (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) hit two for four with a run and a stolen base, and Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) drove in two runs while batting 1-for-3 with a run. Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) went 1-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI, and Dave Fisher (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) hit 2-for-3 with one run scored. In
the second game, Etown scored both of its runs in the bottom of the
first inning when a long drive by Guida landed between a pair of
Susquehanna outfielders. Guida wound up with a triple, and he drove
home both Whetham and Luongo in the process. Guida went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple in the game, and Duppstadt and Eric Wetzel (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) each went 2-for-3 as well. Susquehanna starter Jon Martin (Port Trevorton, PA/Selinsgrove)
got the win in the second game, spreading seven Blue Jay hits over
seven innings and holding Etown scoreless after the first inning. Pa. --- Elizabethtown suffered a pair of one-run Commonwealth
Conference losses on the road at Juniata Thursday, as the Blue Jays
fell 4-3 in the first game and 5-4 in the second game to drop to 6-7
overall and 1-2 in the conference. Juniata improves to 10-6 overall and
5-1 in the conference with the wins. In the
first game, Etown tied the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning
only to see Juniata score and end the game in the bottom of the
seventh. Etown tied the score of the second game at 4-4 in the top of
the sixth inning. Juniata responded with a run in the bottom of the
sixth, and Etown failed to score in the top of the seventh. Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) went 4-for-7 at the plate for Etown with two runs scored over the course of the day. Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) scored one run in the first game and went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, one run and two RBI in the second game. Eric Wetzel (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) went 3-for-6 for the day with one run. Etown will return to action Saturday, March 27 at home against Juniata in a single nine-inning conference game, set to begin at 1:00 p.m. It will be the first game played at Etown's new Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. Pa. --- Elizabethtown opened up its 2004 Commonwealth Conference
schedule with a 7-2 road win in a single nine-inning game over
Susquehanna University Wednesday. The Blue Jays, which improve to 6-5
overall with the win, scored seven runs despite being held to just six
hits, none of which were for extra bases, and two walks over the course
of nine innings by Susquehanna's pitching staff. Susquehanna, which
drops to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss, committed
six errors over the course of the game, resulting in only one of
Etown's runs being earned. Junior Blue Jay starting pitcher Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg)
spread six base hits, two walks and two runs over the course of eight
innings to earn his first win of the season. He also struck out three
batters, and while hitting in the number five spot in Etown's batting
order, went 1-for-3 with a run and two walks. pitched the final inning for the Blue Jays, retired three Susquehanna
hitters in order, and scored one run and drove in another while on
