Elizabethtown Splits Conference Doubleheader with Susquehanna, Blue Jays Win First Game 7-2 as Duppstadt Launches Three-Run Homer, Drop Second Game 4-2

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's record stands at 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Conference following a split doubleheader with Susquehanna University (5-9, 1-5) at home Sunday. Etown won the first game 7-2 and lost the second game 4-2.

In the opening game, Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) started on the mound for Etown and pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out 11 batters. Luongo also batted 2-for-4 with a run scored in the game. Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) batted 2-for-4 with a three-RBI home run and one run scored. Jon Kalejta (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) hit two for four with a run and a stolen base, and Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) drove in two runs while batting 1-for-3 with a run. Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) went 1-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI, and Dave Fisher (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) hit 2-for-3 with one run scored.

In the second game, Etown scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning when a long drive by Guida landed between a pair of Susquehanna outfielders. Guida wound up with a triple, and he drove home both Whetham and Luongo in the process. Guida went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple in the game, and Duppstadt and Eric Wetzel (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) each went 2-for-3 as well.

Susquehanna starter Jon Martin (Port Trevorton, PA/Selinsgrove) got the win in the second game, spreading seven Blue Jay hits over seven innings and holding Etown scoreless after the first inning.

Etown will return to action on the road Tuesday in a non-conference game against the College of New Jersey at 3:00 p.m.
