LAWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown concluded its 2005 season at the
Commonwealth Conference runner-up with a 19-20-1 overall record
following a 7-6 loss to Messiah College in the championship round of
the Commonwealth playoffs in West Lawn, Pa. Saturday. Messiah improves
to 27-12-1 overall and advances to the NCAA Division III tournament. Etown
held a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but
Messiah rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) hit 3-for-3 for Etown with a double, one run and two RBIs. Ryan White (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) was 2-for-5 with a double and one run. Damien Jones (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) hit 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, and Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) hit 2-for-5 with one run and a double. sent Widener packing in the first elimination game of the Commonwealth
Conference playoffs at Owls Field in West Lawn, Pa. Friday as the Blue
Jays beat the Pioneers 3-2. Elizabethtown improves to 18-19-1 overall
with the win, while Widener's season concludes with a 23-14 mark. It
was Etown's first win over Widener this season after three losses to
the Pioneers in the beginning of April. Elizabethtown
scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning, and Widener scored
both of its runs in the bottom of the ninth. There were no extra base
hits in the game. Steve
Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) batted 2-for-4 with one run and one
RBI for Etown, and Damien Jones (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) and Seth
Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) each scored a run for the Blue Jays while
drawing two walks each. Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) went
1-for-2 with one RBI. LAWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won the “survivor's game” of the
Commonwealth Conference playoffs Friday night by an 8-4 score over
Juniata in West Lawn, Pa. By defeating Widener Friday morning and
beating Juniata Friday night, the Blue Jays advance to the championship
round to face Messiah College, which defeated Etown 7-2 in the opening
round of the playoff tournament Thursday. Etown, which is now 19-19-1
overall in 2005, will face Messiah in West Lawn at noon. Etown
currently has one loss in the double elimination tournament, while
Messiah has none. Juniata wraps up its season with a 25-17 overall
record after suffering its second loss of the day. Etown
took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Steve Luongo (Palm
Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) and Damien Jones (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) both
walked and scored. Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic)
singled home Luongo, and Jon Kalejta (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) singled
home Jones. Juniata tied the game 2-2 with a
pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Etown struck back with
two more runs in the top of the sixth as Luongo hit a one-out single
and Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) walked. Brian Torresani
(Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) hit a two-out single to drive home
Luongo. Donahue then struck out on a wild pitch and advanced to first
by beating the throw from the catcher, and Guise scored on the play. Etown
added three more runs in the top of the eighth as Etown loaded the
bases with one out, scored one run as Ryan White (Lebanon, PA/Cedar
Crest) walked with the bases already full to send home Torresani, and
scored two more as Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) hit a two-RBI single
to drive home Donahue and Kalejta, who reached base by drawing a walk
and by getting hit by a pitch, respectively. Juniata
narrowed the gap to 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth as Dan Kauffman
crunched a two-run home run well beyond the right field fence. Etown scored the game's final run in the top of the ninth as Jones walked, stole second and was sent home on a Guise RBI single. Adam
Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) started on the mound for Etown and
pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking
out four to earn his third win of the season. Kalejta and Guise both hit 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI for Etown. Guida went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI at the plate, and Luongo and Jones each led Etown in runs scored with two. Etown program career record set last year by Brad Duppstadt '04. It was
the 17th homer of Guida's career and his eighth this season. Pa. --- Elizabethtown defeated Ursinus College in an
offensively-dominated 11-7 contest on the road in the Blue Jays' final
non-conference game of 2005 Thursday. The Blue Jays improved to 17-15-1
overall with the win, while Ursinus dropped to 11-20-1 overall. Etown
fell behind 4-1 over the course of the first two innings. The Blue Jays
cut the gap to 4-2 in the top of the fourth, tied the game 4-4 in the
top of the fifth, and went ahead 6-4 in the top of the sixth. By the
end of the seventh inning, Etown held an 8-6 lead, and the Blue Jays
were up 11-7 by the end of the eighth inning. Etown out-hit Ursinus
15-11 over the course of the game. Dean

with four RBIs and one run scored for the Blue Jays. Jon Kalejta

Marshall Tuesday to fall to 16-15-1 overall in 2005. F&M improved
to 21-13 with the non-conference win. The
visiting Diplomats scored five runs in the first inning and could
manage just one more run in the eighth after that point. Etown scored
two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added one more in the bottom
of the fifth. The Blue Jays actually out-hit the Diplomats 11-10.
Jeremy Knox pitched eight innings to get the win on the mound for
F&M. Eric Guise (Bendersville,
PA/Biglerville) scored two of Etown's runs and hit 2-for-5 with a
double and a stolen base. Jared Morris (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) hit
1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Etown, and Adam Rebert

Pa. --- Elizabethtown suffered a pair of one-run losses on the road in
a doubleheader at Commonwealth Conference rival Lebanon Valley College
Sunday. Etown lost the first game 4-3 and the second game 3-2 to drop
to 16-14-1 overall and 12-6 in the conference, while Lebanon Valley
improved to 16-15 overall and 7-11 in the Commonwealth. In
the opener, Lebanon Valley took a 4-1 lead into the top of the seventh
inning. Etown rallied in the top of the seventh but fell short,
tallying only two more runs. The Blue Jays were limited to six hits,
and Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) was the only Etown player with more
than one hit, as he went 2-for-3 with a walk. In
the second game, Etown took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning
as Guida homered. It was Guida's seventh home run this season and the
16th of his career, tying him for second place on Etown's all-time list
with Darrell Justh '89 and placing him one homer shy of tying the Etown
career record of 17 set last year by Brad Duppstadt '04. Lebanon
Valley bounced back to add one run in the bottom of the second and tie
the game in the bottom of the third with another run. Lebanon Valely
scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jon

nine-inning game Friday. LVC dropped to 14-15 overall and 5-11 in the
conference with the loss. Etown cruised out to a 5-0 lead in the first three innings of the game and held a 9-2 advantage through six innings. Lebanon Valley rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh inning and three more runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game 9-9. Etown scored one run in the
bottom of the eighth as Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) hit a
two-out triple and was singled home by Damien Jones (Mountain Top,
PA/Crestwood). It turned out to be the game-winner as Etown pitcher

15-11-1 overall. Rowan improves to 26-2 overall with the victory. Etown

Pa. --- A three-run rally in the top of the ninth inning enabled
Elizabethtown to defeat Albright College 5-4 on the road in
Commonwealth Conference nine-inning game Friday. The Blue Jays improve
to 13-10-1 overall and 9-4 in the conference with the win, while
Albright drops to 13-13 overall and 8-5 in the conference with the loss. Elizabethtown
scored one run in the top of the first on a solo home run by catcher
Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter). Albright tied the score 1-1 in the
bottom of the third. Etown scored once more
in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead as Mike Donahue (Hatfield,
PA/Lansdale Catholic) singled with one out, stole second, advanced to
third on an error by the catcher, and went home on an error on a
grounder to shortstop by Guida. Albright responded with three runs in
the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The
score remained 4-2 in Albright's favor until the top of the ninth. Dean
Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) led off with a single and was
followed with a single by Brandon Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Central). On
the next play, Whetham scored on a Damien Jones (Mountain Top,
PA/Crestwood) sacrifice fly to right field. Adam Rebert (Gettysburg,
PA/Gettysburg) followed with the third single of the inning, and in the
next plate appearance, Bryan Torresani (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham)
drove home Watson on a squeeze bunt to the pitcher to tie the game 4-4.

Md. --- A run scored in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled Johns
Hopkins University (18-5) to defeat Elizabethtown College (8-9) by a
12-11 score in a topsy-turvy game in Baltimore Thursday evening. Etown
began the game by taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic), who reached base on a
bunt single to lead off the game and was replaced with pinch runner
Brandon Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Central), and Jon Kalejta (Boyertown,
PA/Boyertown), who walked with one out, were doubled home with one out
by Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine). Hopkins
struck back with a 12-batter, seven-run performance in the bottom half
of the second inning, and Johns Hopkins added another run in the bottom
of the fourth to go up 8-2. Etown countered
with six runs in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score 8-8.
Kalejta led off the inning with another walk, and Eric Guise
(Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) walked with one out to follow. The next
batter, Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) reached base on an
error at third, driving home Kalejta in the process. A Jared Morris
(Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) single in the next at-bat sent home Guise, and
Rebert scored as Bryan Torresani (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) followed
with another single. Damien Jones (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) then
doubled home Morris and Torresani. Jones then stole third and later
went home on a passed ball. The tie was short-lived, as Hopkins went up 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth and extended its lead to 11-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Etown
responded with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the
score once again at 11-11. Torresani hit a one-out single to center
field, followed by a Jones single to first. Watson followed with
another single that scored Torresani and moved Jones to third. Brian

scored Jones and moved Watson to second. Watson advanced to third on a

Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 8-8 overall and 8-4 in the
Commonwealth Conference by defeating Moravian College (4-17, 3-12) 9-3
at home Sunday in the make-up of a previously postponed game. The
nine-inning game which was originally scheduled to be played at
Moravian Friday, had to be moved to Elizabethtown due to field problems
at Moravian. As a result, Moravian was officially scored and batted as
the home team Sunday despite the game's location at Etown. Elizabethtown
scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings, and
the Blue Jays scored twice in the seventh inning and three times in the
eighth inning to seal the win. Moravian scored twice in the bottom of
the fifth and once in the bottom of the eighth. Three
Etown players tallied three hits, including Bryan Torresani (Horsham,
PA/Hatboro-Horsham), who went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one
run scored, Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic), who hit
3-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored, and Seth Guida

doubleheader on the road at Widener University Tuesday, falling 8-6 in
the first game and 16-6 in the second game. Etown dropped to 5-7
overall and 5-4 in the conference with the losses, while Widener
improved to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in the conference with the wins. In
the first game, Etown held a 6-3 lead halfway through the sixth inning,
but Widener rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth. In
the second game, Widener scored eight runs in the bottom of the first,
seven more in the bottom of the fourth, and one more run in the bottom

Pa. --- Elizabethtown dropped to 9-6-1 overall and 5-2 in the
Commonwealth Conference with a 3-1 home loss in a nine-inning game
against Widener University Friday. Widener improved to 13-3 overall and
5-2 in the conference with the win. Widener pitcher Rob Schuck
shut out the Blue Jays for all but one inning as he pitched all nine
innings to earn the win, his second of the season. Etown scored its
lone run unearned in the bottom of the fourth inning when Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) reached
base on an error with two out and no one on, and he scored as Schuck
proceeded to walk the next three Etown batters in a row. On the mound for Etown, starter Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) held
Widener scoreless for the first four innings of the game before
allowing three Widener runs in the fifth. He then held Widener

with Juniata Saturday. Etown won the first game 12-0 and lost 4-1 in
the second game. Etown is now 9-5-1 overall and 5-1 in the Commonwealth
Conference, while Juniata is 12-8 overall and 6-3 in the conference. In the first game, Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) pitched
the full seven innings for Etown and allowed just three hits while
striking out five to improve to 3-0 on the season. At the plate, Luongo
hit 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Catcher Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, three runs batted in and one run scored. Right fielder Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI, and shortstop Jon Kalejta (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) also scored two runs while going 2-for-4 with one RBI. and 8-4-1 overall with an 8-2 road win in a single nine-inning game
against Juniata College Saturday. Juniata dropped to 11-7 overall and
5-2 in the conference with the loss. Etown pitcher Drew Kelley (York, PA/Dallastown) started
on the mound and went the full nine innings, allowing just two runs,
one earned run, two walks and seven hits. Kelley also struck out seven
batters en route to improving to 2-1 on the season. The
Blue Jays pounded out 12 hits against Juniata and benefited from six
Juniata errors. By contrast, Etown committed just one error on the

Pa. --- Elizabethtown saw its winning streak end at seven games Tuesday
in a 10-5 home non-conference loss to The College of New Jersey. TCNJ
improves to 13-2 with the loss, while Etown drops to 7-4-1 overall. The
College of New Jersey scored one run in the second inning, four runs in
the third, three runs in the fourth, and one run in both the fifth and
sixth innings. Etown pitcher Matt Woehnker (Colts Neck, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) shut out TCNJ in the seventh and eighth innings, and Scott Beard (Willow Grove, PA/La Salle College H.S.) blanked the visiting Lions in the top of the ninth. Etown scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning as TCNJ committed three errors. Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) reached base on an error and moved to second on another error. Donahue scored when a deep fly ball to left field by Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) was mishandled, a move that also enabled Rebert to advance to second base. Rebert moved up to third as Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) grounded out. A ground-out by Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) drove Rebert home. Etown
added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Guida led off
with a double and was immediately driven home on a single by Guise, who
has now hit safely in eight consecutive games. Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) followed with another single that sent Guise to third. Buskett got his first collegiate win on the mound for TCNJ as he pitched five innings without allowing a single earned run. after sweeping Susquehanna 9-8 in eight innings and 11-0 in a
Commonwealth Conference doubleheader on the road. The Blue Jays are now
7-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Susquehanna is 3-8
overall and 0-3 in the Conference. The first
game went into extra innings as Etown scored six runs in the top of the
first, Susquehanna scored twice in the bottom of the first and once
more in the bottom of the second, Etown added single runs in the top of
the fourth and fifth innings, and as Susquehanna rallied for five runs
to tie the score 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh. Etown scored one run
in the top of the eighth and held Susquehanna scoreless in the bottom
half of the inning to seal the win. Andy Mees (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) got the win in relief for Etown, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing one run and three hits while striking out one to get his first victory of the season. Seth Guida

and Etown pounded the visiting Crusaders 17-2 to improve to 5-3-1
overall. Susquehanna dropped to 3-5 with the loss. Etown
scored all 17 of its runs in the first four innings, scoring four in
the first inning, one in the second inning, four in the third inning,
and lit up the scoreboard for eight runs in the fourth inning.
Susquehanna tallied one run in the fifth inning and one more run in the

training trip to Ft. Pierce, Florida Thursday with a 3-0 win over NCAA
Division II Davis & Elkins University. Drew Kelley (York, PA/Dallastown) pitched a complete-game shutout in the victory. No other details from the game are currently available. Etown
was also to have played Cedarville prior to its game against Davis
& Elkins, but the game against Cedarville was rained out. The Blue Jays went 4-1-1 in Florida and head back to Pennsylvania with a 4-3-1 overall record in 2005.
