Back to top 12/20/2005 RE: Problems sending to MSN & Hotmail E-mail Addresses Yesterday, ITS networking staff identified a problem with sending messages to MSN and Hotmail addresses. Since MSN and Hotmail are hosted by the same Microsoft owned servers, it would be natural that both were displaying the same behavior. After contacting Comcast Business Solutions, ITS learned that MSN/Hotmail was having trouble with volumes of virus related e-mail and had contacted Comcast for a list of address spaces that were safe to block. Unfortunately several of Comcast Business Solutions customers (including Elizabethtown College) were inadvertently included. During this time, Elizabethtown College users were left with the inability to send messages to MSN or Hotmail since Tuesday, December 13. ITS recommends resending all messages destined to any MSN or Hotmail account between and including, Monday, December 12 and Monday, December 19. Back to top 12/15/2005 An Important Message from the ITS Department 1. In order to maintain peak performance and reliability of our e-mail system, ITS must conduct periodic database maintenance. This maintenance will cause scheduled interruption of access to your e-mail. All maintenance will begin at 8 a.m. and may last several hours. Please plan accordingly. The schedule is as follows: * December 23 Students, Class of 2006 * December 24 Students, Class of 2007 * December 26 Students, Class of 2008, 2009 * December 27 Staff (last names A-M) & all remaining students/graduates * December 28 Staff (last names N-Z) * December 29 Faculty (all), "Affiliates" (ie CoB), and "Shared" (ie clubs and orgs) 2. ITS recommends to anyone that will be off campus for an extended period of time during the holidays, change your e-mail/network password now so that it won’t expire while you are off campus. You may use Options in Outlook Web Access (mail.etown.edu) to change your password. 3. We remind the campus community not to click on links in AIM. We have had a number of computers infected by clicking on an AIM link. |
