Scheduled Maintenance: Applications & Resserv Servers

ITS will be adding disk space to the Applications server and maintenance on the Resserv server. We want to do this at a time that will have the least impact on the campus community. Therefore, we will bring the Applications and Resserv servers down on Wednesday morning from 5 – 7 a.m. to perform this upgrade. Logins may be delayed during this time. Server-based applications such as Kurzweil, CalcLabs and some others will be unavailable during this time. There will be no access to the “Classes folder” or “Homedirs” (private and public folders) for the campus community during the maintenance period.

Questions should be directed to the Helpdesk at x3333.

ALERT: New Worm Warning

A new worm will be activated this Friday.

If the worm is present on your system it will destroy Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, PDF files and more!

There are several things you should do to protect your files:
1. Make sure your virus definitions are up-to-date.  They should be dated January 25th or later.  If you are not sure how to check the date click here:

2. Scan your entire system for viruses.  This may take an hour or more and therefore we recommend that you do it when you will not be using your computer for other purposes.  Contact the ITS Help Desk if any viruses are found.

3. Put a copy of all of your important files in your Private folder.  The files in the Private folder are backed up each evening by our network staff.  We highly recommend that you use your Private folder as your primary storage.

4. As always, do not open email attachments or click on links in email or IM messages unless you are certain the sender intended to send you an attachment.

More information on this worm may be found at these sites:
 -  http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blackmal.e@mm.html

Please contact the ITS Help Desk (helpdesk@etown.edu or ext. 3333) if you want assistance with these procedures.
