Blue Jays open 2008 indoor season at Dickenson Holiday meet

Elizabethtown Kicks Off Indoor Season at Dickinson Holiday Meet

CARLISLE, Pa. --- A group of Elizabethtown College athletes participated at the Dickinson College Holiday Meet on Saturday afternoon to open the women's indoor track and field season.

Senior Samantha Adams (Mickleton, NJ/Padua Academy, DE) was the Blue Jays' top finisher as she was second in the pole vault at 10 feet, matching her own school record.

Senior Jenna Riley (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) was fourth in the triple jump at 34 feet, 4 1/2 inches and eighth in the long jump (15 feet, 2 3/4 inches) while first-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) claimed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles at 9.45 seconds.

First-year student Lauren Riley (Sanatoga, PA/Pottsgrove) was sixth in the pole vault at 9 feet, first-year student Janelle Lawson (Hanover Twp., PA/Hanover Area) placed seventh in the triple jump (29 feet, 7 inches) and eighth in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and first-year student Sarah DeGeorge (Butler, PA/Butler) was eighth in the shot put (24 feet, 11 inches).

Despite entering just six athletes in the meet, the Blue Jays finished with 25 points to take ninth in a field of 11 schools. Gettysburg College won the team title with 104.5 points followed by Messiah College (93 points) and McDaniel College (89 points).
