Back to top 12/18/2007 Russo, Fromuth named to NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Russo, Fromuth Named to NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College junior forward Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and senior midfielder Jenny Fromuth (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) were selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Division III All-Mid-Atlantic Region team in women's soccer, the NSCAA has announced. Russo was a first-team selection while Fromuth was named to the third team after leading the Blue Jays to a 17-4-1 overall record, a berth in the Commonwealth Conference championship match and the program's second straight trip to the NCAA Division III tournament. Russo was the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year as she led the Blue Jays with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points in 20 matches, scored at least one point in nine straight matches from Sept. 20 through Oct. 16 and registered at least one point in 15 matches during the season. A second-team All-Region selection last season, Russo has scored 28 goals and added 18 assists for 74 points in 59 career matches. She is the first Elizabethtown player to earn first-team All-Region honors since Dana Moyer in 2005 and the 10th in program history. Fromuth, a two-time first-team All-Conference selection, tallied seven goals and six assists while starting all 22 matches. Three of her goals were game-winners in 1-0 victories for the Blue Jays. She finishes her three-year career with the Blue Jays with 15 goals and 13 assists for 43 points in 63 matches. Back to top 12/15/2007 Blue Jays take 9-0 record to break following 79-51 win over Rutgers-Camden ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown Earns Ninth Straight Victory By Defeating Rutgers-Camden, 79-51 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College shot 56.9 percent from the field and improved to 9-0 for the first time in school history with a 79-51 victory over Rutgers-Camden in non-conference men's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mike Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) led the Blue Jays in scoring with his third straight 18-point effort, while senior Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added 14 of his 16 points in the first half as Etown never trailed against the Scarlet Raptors (2-7 overall), who shot 32 percent (16-for-50) from the field as a team. Sophomore Mike Church (Peach Bottom, PA/Solanco) finished with eight points, seven rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots for the Blue Jays, who hit 29-of-51 shots from the field and scored 30 points off 28 Rutgers-Camden turnovers. The Blue Jays scored the game's first six points and built their lead to double figures at 18-8 with 12:14 left in the opening half. Etown's advantage swelled to 38-19 at halftime as Piersol went for 14 points while Schatzmann added 12. In the second half, the Blue Jays went on a 16-0 run spanning five minutes to take a 56-25 lead with 12:40 to play. Elizabethtown's largest lead was at 61-29 with 10:40 to go following a three-point play by first-year student Keith Fogel (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg), who finished with eight points. Brandon Canty was the lone player to reach double figures for Rutgers-Camden, as he finished with 11 points off the bench. Alex Rislin added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors, who finished with a 35-26 edge on the glass over the Blue Jays. Junior Phil Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) scored just two points for the Blue Jays, but added four rebounds, a game-high seven assists and three steals in just 20 minutes of action. The triumph for the Blue Jays was the 897th in program history, leaving the team three wins shy of reaching 900 all-time victories. Roberts) was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference men's basketball weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Dec. 9, the conference office announced Monday. Piersol averaged 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as the Blue Jays improved to 8-0 for the first time in program history with wins over Millersville (77-72) and Arcadia (76-63) last week. He scored a team-high 22 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute, as Etown upset Millersville on Wednesday night, then added a team-best 18 points and a career-high nine rebounds in the win over Arcadia on Saturday. For the season, he leads the Commonwealth Conference in scoring at 19.6 points per game while adding 4.8 rebounds per contest. Piersol is shooting 48.3 percent (56-for-116) from the field, 42.1 percent (16-for-38) from three-point range and 82.9 percent (29-for-35) at the foul line for the Blue Jays. Senior Mike Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) shot 7-for-11 from the field and finished with 18 points, while senior Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) tallied 18 points and a career-high nine rebounds for the Blue Jays, who continue the best start in program history at 8-0. Eric Elliot led the Knights (3-3 overall) with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven steals while Terrell Varnado added 13 points and four steals, but Arcadia shot 30.4 percent (21-for-69) from the field as a team and committed 24 turnovers. First-year student Keith Fogel (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) added a season-high 14 points off the bench for the Blue Jays, who hit 46.9 percent (23-for-49) from the field and 29-of-37 from the foul line in the contest. The Blue Jays trailed 7-6 with 14:04 left in the first half, but scored the next 14 points to take a 20-7 lead on a basket by Schatzmann. Etown would close the half on an 11-2 run over the final 5:01 to take a 38-17 lead to intermission. Schatzmann and Fogel led the Blue Jays with 10 points apiece in the first half while Elliot paced the Knights with six points as Arcadia shot just 7-for-34 (20.6 percent) from the field. In the second half, the Jays led 40-20 with 19:07 to go before the Knights went on an 18-6 run to pull within 46-38 with 12:25 left. However, Piersol scored five straigh points to push the Blue Jay edge back to 51-38 and Arcadia would not pull within single digits again until the final minute. For the women, junior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/ Conrad Weiser) and sophomore Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) each won an event, Brizek was victorious in the 200IM (2:22.68) and Riley won the 100 free (57.99). Blue Jay women were also first in the 200 medlay relay, Riley, junior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Brizek, and first year student Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) (2:00.92). For the men, junior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) was the lone winner as he captured the 500 freestyle in 5:05.26. Reid, who posted the sixth double-double of her career, went 3-for-3 from the field and 8-for-8 from the foul line while adding three assists and three blocked shots for the Blue Jays (5-2 overall), who earned the tournament championship for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Junior Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) notched her first career double-double for the Blue Jays with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds while senior Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County) added 10 points and five rebounds to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. Brynn DeGroff led the Profs (4-3 overall) with 11 points, six rebounds and six steals, but she was the lone player to hit double figures as Rowan shot 30.3 percent (20-for-66) from the field and 10-for-25 (40 percent) at the foul line. The Blue Jays never trailed in the contest, but led just 36-35 at halftime as the Profs hit a pair of three-pointers in the final 1:40 of the half to cut a seven-point deficit to one. In the second half, the Blue Jays took control as they scored the first 10 points of the half while holding the Profs without a point until a basket by Michelle Lala with 14:01 to play. Walton scored six of Etown's 10 points during the run. Elizabethtown's lead would grow to as many as 14 points on three occasions, as the Profs would get no closer than nine points in the final nine minutes of the game. Jillian Kane and Amanda Jennings each scored eight points off the bench for Rowan, who received 30 of their 54 points from substitutes. Jennings also matched Lala and DeGroff for the team high with six rebounds. Overall, the Blue Jays shot 42.6 percent (20-for-47) from the field and connected on 24-of-29 (82.8 percent) at the foul line. Elizabethtown also finished with a 48-37 edge in rebounds. In the consolation game, Trinity (D.C.) defeated Penn State Harrisburg 76-54 as the Tigers (2-8 overall) were paced by 21 points from Preshuse Jackson and 14 points and 18 rebounds by Danielle Owens. The Blue Jays (3-4 overall) racked up six falls and a technical fall in the win over Scranton. Sophomore Matt Torresani (Horsham, PA/Hatboro Horsham) scored a technical fall 21-6, 7:00 to give the Blue Jays a 5-0 lead to start the match, while sophomore Eric Rhoads (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) wasted no time securing a fall in 1:46. University 75-41 in the opening game of the R1 Sports Blue Jay Classic at Thompson Gymnasium on Friday night. Walton hit 10-of-21 from the field, including 4-for-7 from three-point range, as the Blue Jays (4-2 overall) forced the Tigers (1-8 overall) into 39 turnovers to advance to Saturday's championship game at 3:00 p.m. against Rowan University, which defeated Penn State Harrisburg 76-37 in Friday's other game. The Blue Jays led 33-16 at halftime behind 19 points by Walton, and went on a 21-0 run that spanned halftime to turn a 19-16 advantage into a 40-16 lead with 17:11 left in the game. First-year student Kirsti Larsen (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) came off the Blue Jay bench to score a season-high 11 points as Elizabethtown finished with a 33-2 edge in bench scoring over Trinity. Sophomore Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) earn the only victory for the Blue Jays, winning his 157lb match by decision 3-2 over eighth ranked Ryan Herwig. Heisey started the 3rd period up 1-0, but Herwig escaped to tie the bout with 1:45 remaining, Heisey scored a takedown with less than 30 seconds left to go up 3-1, and a late escape by Herwig ended the match 3-2. Sophomore Bud Croswell (Newark, DE/Sanford School) lost a tough match 7-3 to fourth ranked Jesse Harrington at 149lbs. Croswell scored a takedown early in the first period and built up over five minutes of riding time, but a late stall call and a reversal gave Harrington the lead with less than fifteen seconds left in the match. Delaware Valley 33, Elizabethtown 3 Back to top 12/5/2007 Blue Jays set school record with 7-0 start after downing Division II School ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Elizabethtown Sets School Record with 7-0 Start Following 77-72 Win Over Millersville ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Senior Chad Piersol (Elverson, PA/Owen J. Roberts) drilled a tiebreaking three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining as Elizabethtown College improved to 7-0 for the first time in program history with a 77-72 victory over Division II Millersville University in men's basketball action on Wednesday night. Piersol finished with a game-high 22 points for the Blue Jays, who squandered a 20-point second-half lead before rallying for the victory over the Marauders (5-1 overall). The 1996-97 squad held the previous school record by winning its first six games. Charlie Parker scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half for Millersville while adding six rebounds, six assists and five steals while Reggie Bates added 18 points and 10 rebounds, but the Marauders were plagued by 23 turnovers which led to 28 Blue Jay points. Senior Mike Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) added 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists and sank the clinching foul shots with 1.7 seconds to go for Elizabethtown, which led 57-37 with 12:28 remaining before Millersville went on a 29-8 run to go ahead 66-65 on a three-pointer by Bates with 2:31 left. Schatzmann hit two of three free throws to restore Elizabethtown's lead at 67-66 with 2:07 to go, but Makal Stibbins dunked a rebound to put Millersville back ahead 68-67 with 1:51 to play. The Blue Jays regained the lead with 1:14 to go as first-year student Keith Fogel (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) hit a 25-foot three-pointer to beat the shot clock and give Etown a 70-68 lead, but Millersville knotted the score for the final time at 70-70 on a layup by Charlie Parker with 58 seconds to go. Following the go-ahead three-pointer by Piersol, Millersville moved back within one at 73-72 on a putback by Justin Simmons with 25 seconds left. The Blue Jays restored their three-point lead at 75-72 on a breakaway layup by sophomore Mike Church (Peach Bottom, PA/Solanco) with 20 seconds left. Without a timeout, Millersville looked for a game-tying three-pointer but Bates misfired with four seconds to go, and Schatzmann collared the rebound and nailed both foul shots to seal the win. Elizabethtown seemed to have the game in control, leading 57-37 with 12:28 to play. However, Millersville went on a 13-0 run over a three-minute span to pull within 57-50 with 9:34 left. A three-pointer by Piersol pushed the Blue Jays on top 63-56 with 6:30 to go, but back-to-back buckets by Bates and Parker followed by a three-pointer by Parker tied the game at 63-63 with 3:33 to go. Church finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Jays, while Fogel tallied 10 points in 13 minutes off the bench. Senior Bryce Rodgers (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) added eight points and a career-high nine rebounds for Etown, which was outrebounded by the taller Marauders by a slim 40-39 margin. Millersville shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the field in the contest, while Elizabethtown hit just 39.4 percent (26-for-66) as a team. Senior Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) hit the tiebreaking foul shots with 36.4 seconds left while junior Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) added four foul shots in the closing seconds for the Blue Jays (3-2 overall), who went 23-for-27 from the free-throw line in the contest as a team. Senior Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) and first-year student Kaity Snyder (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia) tied for the game high in scoring with 14 points apiece for the Blue Jays, while Hitz added 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds and Romano tied her career high with 12 points to go with six assists. Bri McNallen led the Crusaders with 13 points and five rebounds, while Leigh Henderson added 11 points and five boards and Erika Barron finished with 10 points and four assists. Elizabethtown led 59-45 with 9:38 to play following a basket by Quinn, but the Crusaders (4-2 overall) went on a 15-1 run to tie the score at 60-60 on two foul shots by Barron with 3:21 left. Romano hit two foul shots with 3:06 remaining to restore Etown's two-point lead at 62-60, but Barron hit a driving layup with 2:47 to go to equalize the score at 62-62. A running layup by Ruth Williamson with 2:01 left put Susquehanna ahead 64-62, but Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) answered in the paint with 1:42 left to even the score at 62-62. Hitz hit two foul shots with 36.4 seconds left to give Elizabethtown a 66-64 lead, and came up with a steal with 25 seconds to go as Susquehanna looked for the tying basket. Romano added two free throws with 21.8 seconds left and nailed two more with 12.7 seconds left to extend the Blue Jay lead to 70-64. Susquehanna stormed out to an early 12-4 lead in the game's first five minutes, but the Blue Jays rallied to cut the Crusader deficit to 13-12 with 10:46 remaining in the first half. Elizabethtown took its first lead at 20-19 on a layup by Snyder with 6:33 left in the half, part of an 18-2 run that gave the Blue Jays a 32-21 lead with 3:34 left in the first half. The Blue Jays led 40-26 at intermission behind a game-high 12 points from Snyder, while Quinn added 11 points. Houseal led the Crusaders with nine points in the opening half, but Susquehanna shot just 26.3 percent (10-for-38) from the field as a team. Overall, Susquehanna shot 30.4 percent (21-for-69) from the field and 7-for-28 from three-point range, while Elizabethtown hit 34.8 percent (23-for-66) from the floor. Schatzmann averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game as the Blue Jays earned a pair of wins last week to match the best start in program history at 6-0. He scored all of his game-high 23 points in the second half while playing with four fouls as the Blue Jays rallied for a 73-71 win over previous unbeaten University of Scranton on Wednesday night, hitting 6-of-7 attempts from three-point range while adding six rebounds and four steals. On Saturday, Schatzmann tallied 17 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead Elizabethtown to a 105-52 victory at Lancaster Bible College, hitting 3-of-4 three-point attempts in the contest. For the week, Schatzmann shot 14-for-19 (73.7 percent) from the field and 9-for-11 from three-point range for the Blue Jays. He ranks second on the team and in the Commonwealth Conference with 18.8 points per game, while leading the league with 17 three-pointers. For the Blue Jay men, junior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) was third in the 100 backstroke (55.02 seconds), eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:04.14) and 15th in the 500 freestyle (5:05.48) while sophomore Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) was 15th in the 200 backstroke (2:10.10). For the Etown women, sophomore Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) took fifth in the 50 freestyle (26.04 seconds), 13th in the 100 backstroke (1:06.26) and 15th in the 100 freestyle (57.13 seconds). Junior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.40) and was ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.12), junior Laura Quigley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) was 11th in the 400 individual medley (5:31.41) and junior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) was 16th in the 1650 freestyle (19:32.83). Rowan University won the men's team title with 680 points, ahead of host Franklin & Marshall (662 points) and Kutztown University (520.5 points). Back to top 12/1/2007 Blue Jays open 2008 indoor season at Dickenson Holiday meet Elizabethtown College Women's Track and Field Elizabethtown Kicks Off Indoor Season at Dickinson Holiday Meet CARLISLE, Pa. --- A group of Elizabethtown College athletes participated at the Dickinson College Holiday Meet on Saturday afternoon to open the women's indoor track and field season. Senior Samantha Adams (Mickleton, NJ/Padua Academy, DE) was the Blue Jays' top finisher as she was second in the pole vault at 10 feet, matching her own school record. Senior Jenna Riley (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) was fourth in the triple jump at 34 feet, 4 1/2 inches and eighth in the long jump (15 feet, 2 3/4 inches) while first-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) claimed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles at 9.45 seconds. First-year student Lauren Riley (Sanatoga, PA/Pottsgrove) was sixth in the pole vault at 9 feet, first-year student Janelle Lawson (Hanover Twp., PA/Hanover Area) placed seventh in the triple jump (29 feet, 7 inches) and eighth in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and first-year student Sarah DeGeorge (Butler, PA/Butler) was eighth in the shot put (24 feet, 11 inches). Back to top 12/1/2007 Elizabethtown finishes 7th at season-opening Dickinson Holiday Meet Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Blue Jays Kick Off 2008 Indoor Season at Dickinson Holiday Meet CARLISLE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's indoor track and field team opened its 2008 indoor schedule at the Dickinson College Holiday Meet on Saturday afternoon. Participating with a limited roster, the Blue Jays placed seventh in a field of 11 schools with 43 points. Senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) earned the victory and broke his own school record in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:22.56. Sophomore Kyle Grimm (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) was fifth in the 400 meters (54.22 seconds) and sophomore Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) took sixth in the 200 meters (24.38 seconds). California University of Pennsylvania won the team title with 111 points, followed by Gettysburg College (103.5 points) and Dickinson (83 points). Back to top 12/1/2007 Etown finishes 8th at Spartan Invitational: Terry Bartholomew finishes 2nd ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WRESTLING Elizabethtown Takes Fifth at Spartan Invitational YORK, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team finished eighth out of 11 schools at the Spartan Invitational at York College on Saturday, scoring 43.5 points. Sophomore Terry Bartholomew (Point of Rocks, MD/Brunswick) was the top individual finisher for the Blue Jays, as he took second at 141 pounds. Sophomore Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) was fourth at 197 pounds and sophomore Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) finished fourth at 285 pounds. Bartholomew opened competition with a 7-0 win over Justin Krop of Liberty University, then defeated Josh Flint of Apprentice School 17-6 in quarterfinal action. Bartholomew moved to the finals by pinning Jon Stillo of Centenary College in 1:18, but fell to Colon Lewis of Liberty by an 11-2 score. Sharp posted a 10-5 win over Kendall Ridenour of Apprentice School in his opening match, before being pinned by eventual weight class winner Joe West of Delaware Valley College. Sharp was defeated in the third-place match by Shawn Vanwingerden of College of New Jersey 6-1. Katzaman picked up an 8-5 win over Drew Mackay of Delaware Valley in his initial bout, then pinned Shane Cooley of York in 3:20 to advance to the semifinals, where eighth-ranked Kyle Bilquist of Delaware Valley won 4-0. In his third-place bout, Katzaman dropped a 4-2 decision to 10th-ranked Steve Carbone of College of New Jersey. Delaware Valley won the team championship after winning five of the 10 weight classes. York College's Kyle Flickinger was named Outstanding Wrestler.

Roberts) scored 27 of his career-high 29 points in the first half as Elizabethtown College improved to 6-0 on the season with a 105-52 rout of host Lancaster Bible College on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mike Schatzmann (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Blue Jays, who matched the 1996-97 squad's school record of six consecutive wins to begin a season. Elizabethtown scored the game's first seven points and led 67-26 at intermission in their first-ever meeting against the Chargers (0-6 overall), while finishing the game shooting 55.4 percent (41-for-74) from the field and 10-for-19 from three-point range. Carl Edwards led Lancaster Bible with 14 points and seven rebounds, but the Chargers committed 33 turnovers which led to 42 Blue Jay points. Piersol, whose previous career high of 23 points was set twice earlier this season, shot 12-for-17 from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point range in just 21 minutes of playing time. Schatzmann hit 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc for the Blue Jays. First-year student Keith Fogel (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) contributed a season-high 11 points off the bench for Etown, while senior Jordan Dirago (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) added a career-best nine points along with four rebounds. Lauren Fornazor added 15 points for the Greyhounds (2-3 overall), who placed four players in double figures and shot 49.2 percent from the field against the Blue Jays (2-2 overall). Senior Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County) tallied 23 points and pulled nine rebounds for Elizabethtown, which led 36-35 at halftime but hit on just 37.7 percent (26-for-69) from the field in the game. Elizabethtown held a 40-39 lead with 17:06 left, but Moravian went on a 22-5 run to move ahead 61-45 with 6:45 to play.
