Back to top 2/24/2007 Elizabethtown Opens 2007 Season with Pair of Road Losses to Shenandoah ELIZABETHTHOWN COLLEGE BASEBALL Elizabethtown Opens 2007 Season with Pair of Road Losses to Shenandoah WINCHESTER, Va. --- Elizabethtown College opened its 2007 season with a pair of low-scoring losses in a road doubleheader against Shenandoah University Saturday. The Blue Jays fell 3-0 in the first game and 2-0 in the second game. The doubleheader was also the season opener for Shenandoah, which went 25-18 last year. In the first game of the day, Shenandoah pitcher Taylor DuFrene (Newport News, VA/Woodside) threw a seven-inning complete game three-hitter. Elizabethtown senior starting pitcher Tyler Hoffman (Phoenix, MD/Loyola Blakefield) also went the distance, limiting Shenandoah to six hits, three runs and two earned runs over six innings. He also struck out two and walked two. Elizabethtown senior left fielder Ryan White (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) went 1-for-1 at the plate, drew both of the Blue Jays’ walks in the first game and stole a base. In the second game, Elizabethtown sophomore starting pitcher Sam Heaps (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) tossed a six-inning complete game and allowed just four hits, two runs and two walks while striking out three. Shenandoah pitchers Rhys Wolford (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and David Frelin (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) combined for a four-hit shutout. Elizabethtown senior center fielder Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) hit 2-for-4 in the second game. Shenandoah scored both of its runs in the bottom of the second inning. Elizabethtown will return to action in its annual trip to Florida beginning March 4. The Blue Jays are scheduled to play Westminster College (Pa.) in a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4. Shenandoah 3, Elizabethtown 0 (Feb 24, 2007 at Winchester, Va.)
