Elizabethtown 1, Susquehanna 0 Elizabethtown 5, Susquehanna 1 Back to top 4/6/2007 Elizabethtown Rallies to Defeat Susquehanna 8-7 in 11 Innings ELIZABETHTHOWN COLLEGE BASEBALL Elizabethtown Rallies to Defeat Susquehanna 8-7 in 11 Innings ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- After trailing Susquehanna University for the first eight and a half innings of Friday’s Commonwealth Conference contest, host Elizabethtown College tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning and won 8-7 in the bottom of the 11th. The Blue Jays improved to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference with the win. The visiting Crusaders dropped to 6-11-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference with the loss. Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and went ahead 4-0 in the top of the second inning. By the middle of the seventh inning, Susquehanna led 6-2. Etown scored a pair of runs to cut the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, but Susquehanna responded with a run in the top of the eighth to go up 7-4. Elizabethtown made the score 7-6 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth. After holding Susquehanna scoreless in the top of the ninth, Etown designated hitter Tom Semanek (Swoyersville, PA/Bishop Hoban) hit a leadoff double, and Rodney Francis (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) pinch-ran for him. A sacrifice bunt by Jared Morris (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) moved Francis up to third base, and a one-out sacrifice fly by Matt Vinagro (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) brought him home to tie the game. After a scoreless tenth inning and Susquehanna half of the eleventh, Elizabethtown’s Brandon Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Central) led off with a walk. Francis, having taken over as the DH, followed with a single that moved Watson to third base, and Francis advanced to second on the throw to third. With no one out, Susquehanna then intentionally walked Morris to load the bases and get the possible of a force-out at home plate. The strategy backfired, as Vinagro came to the plate next and drew a walk to score Watson’s winning run. Morris finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, a run and an RBI. Jared Auman (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy) hit 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI for Etown, and Ryan White (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
