Home games in ALL CAPS Back to top 8/20/2007 Blue jays picked second in Commonwealth Conference pre-season coach's poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Men’s Soccer Team Picked Second in Commonwealth Conference Preseason Coaches Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men’s soccer team has been picked to finish second in the Commonwealth Conference in a survey of the league’s six head coaches, the conference office announced Monday. The Blue Jays, who are the defending Commonwealth Conference playoff champions, received two first-place votes and 28 points to rank second behind three-time defending NCAA Division III champion Messiah College, which captured four first-place votes and 30 points in all to take the top spot in the survey. Last season, Elizabethtown finished 11-5-3 overall and in fourth place with a 3-3-1 league record before claiming the conference postseason crown with road wins at Messiah (1-0) and Susquehanna University (2-0). Following Messiah and Elizabethtown in the rankings were Lebanon Valley College (20 points), Widener University (19 points), conference newcomer Lycoming College (15 points) and Albright College (14 points). Head coach Skip Roderick enters his 25th season on the bench of his alma mater with 401 career wins, one of nine coaches in NCAA Division III history with 400 victories in a career. The Blue Jays open their 2007 schedule on Saturday, Sept. 1 against nationally-ranked New York University at the Stevens Institute of Technology Classic. |
