Elizabethtown College Women’s Tennis Team Picked First in Commonwealth Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women’s tennis team was picked to finish first in the Commonwealth Conference as voted upon by the league’s five head coaches, the conference office announced Friday.

The Blue Jays received three of the five first-place votes in the survey and tallied a total of 20 points to finish ahead of Messiah College, which received one first-place vote and 18 points. Lebanon Valley College picked up the other first-place vote and posted a total of 16 points, followed by Lycoming College (12 points) and Albright College (9 points).

Elizabethtown set a program record for victories in 2006-07, compiling a 17-3 record and a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play, while Matt Helsel was named conference Coach of the Year for the second time in his five seasons as head coach.

The Blue Jays begin their 2007-08 schedule on Thursday, Sept. 20 with a match at Lebanon Valley.
