Back to top 8/22/2007 Etown picked second in Commonwealth Conference pre-season coaches' poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Women’s Soccer Team Picked Second in Commonwealth Conference Preseason Coaches Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women’s soccer team has been picked to finish second in the Commonwealth Conference as ranked by the conference’s six head coaches, the conference office announced Wednesday. The Blue Jays, who are the defending Commonwealth Conference champions, picked up one first-place vote and 27 points to rank second behind Messiah College, which earned the other five first-place votes and 31 total points to take the top spot in the poll. Widener University was third with 21 points, followed by Albright College in fourth (19 points), Lebanon Valley College in fifth (17 points) and conference newcomer Lycoming College in sixth (11 points). Elizabethtown finished with a 14-5-3 record in 2006 and won the school’s first conference title since 1999. The Blue Jays also advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 1997. Head coach Barry Dohner, who begins his 14th season on the Blue Jay bench with 172 victories, is the two-time reigning Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year as well as last year’s Middle Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. The Blue Jays received 140 points in the survey, which is voted upon by a panel of 23 coaches and sports information directors from across the country along with the co-creators of the site. Elizabethtown was ranked 18 th in the final poll of the 2006 season. Elizabethtown finished with a 14-5-3 record and won the Commonwealth Conference postseason championship in 2006, the school’s first conference title since 1999. The Blue Jays also advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 1997.
