Back to top 9/26/2007 Etown shuts out Albright 9-0 in home opener ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Elizabethtown Shuts Out Albright, 9-0, in Home Opener ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's tennis team dropped just seven games in singles en route to a 9-0 victory over Albright College in Commonwealth Conference women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon. In singles, sophomore Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) defeated Lisa Archibald 6-1, 6-0 at flight one, senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) downed Stacy Bampton 6-0, 6-0 at flight two, and junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) defeated Gabrielle Toda 6-0, 6-0 at flight three. At flight four, sophomore Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Brittany Herbert, first-year student Angela Cairns (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) won 6-0, 6-2 over Amanda Cain at flight five, and sophomore Kelly Wall (Washington, PA/Washington) won at flight six over Missy Yake 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, Smith and Yu defeated Archibald and Jen Russum 8-1, Swarr and Russell downed Marissa Cooperman and Bampson 8-1, and Cairns and Wall teamed to knock off Cain and Yake 8-2. Amanda Cain/Missy Yake (ALB) 8-2 Back to top 9/23/2007 Blue Jays compete at ITA Southeast Regional ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Elizabethtown Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Southeast Regional Championships FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College women's tennis team participated at the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Championships on the campus of the University of Mary Washington during the weekend. In the championship singles draw, sophomore Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nathalie Faure in her first match before losing 6-0, 6-0 to third-seeded Stephanie Kurti in a second-round match. Senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) lost 7-5, 6-2 to Nicole Andreini in her opening match, and fell 8-2 to fourth-seeded Brittnay Mataya in her first consolation match, while junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Amanda Schubert in the opening round and fell 8-5 to Morgan Martin in the first round of consolations. In the blue singles draw, first-year student Minke Albers (The Netherlands) fell 6-0, 6-1 to Anne Ailstock in the first round, then defeated Kaitlyn Garcia 8-3 in the first round of consolations before falling 8-0 to Erica Wood in the second consolation round. First-year student Angela Cairns (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) also competed in blue singles and dropped her opening match to Debbie Blass 6-0, 6-0. She then defeated Emily Schutze 8-3 in the opening round of consolation before falling 8-3 to Robyn Wendell in round two. In championship doubles, Smith and Yu were seeded sixth and fell 8-2 to Blass and Julia Guarino in round one. In the consolation bracket, they defeated Rebecca Commito and Alexis Hickman 8-2 in the first round before falling 8-6 to Courtney Goimarac and Kate Malpeli in the quarterfinals. Albers and Swarr defeated Maggie Bai and Faure 9-8 (8-4) in round one before falling 8-0 to third-seeded Jennifer Chui and Amy Staloch in round two. Cairns teamed with sophomore Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) in the gray doubles flight and won their first match over Lieschen Cluiss and Schutze 8-2 before falling to eventual bracket winner Alex Bybel and Sarah Woodward in the quarterfinals. Back to top 9/20/2007 Etown's season opener at Lebanon Valley suspended due to darkness ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Elizabethtown's Season Opener at Lebanon Valley Suspended Due to Darkness, Blue Jays Lead 4-3 ANNVILLE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's tennis team saw its 2007-08 season-opening match at Lebanon Valley College halted due to darkness on Thursday, with the Blue Jays holding a 4-3 lead pending the results of two singles matches. The number two match of senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Leslie Sabas and the number four match between first-year student Minke Albers (The Netherlands) and Charissa Nordall were halted after the players split the first two sets. Those matches will be completed on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. In completed action, sophomore Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) defeated Sarah Grodzinski 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at first singles, junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) downed Kelly Moll 6-1, 6-0 at third singles and sophomore Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) won 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles over Shayna Heintzelman.
