On offense, she scored two goals and three assists for seven points to finish her career with eight goals and 10 assists for 26 points in 58 games. The Blue Jays finished 17-4 overall and in third place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 3-2 record. Elizabethtown was ranked 13th in the final STX/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. Back to top 11/13/2008 Three named to field hockey All-Conference team FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, November 13, 2008 Elizabethtown Places Three on All-Conference Field Hockey Team ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Three members of the Elizabethtown College field hockey team have been selected to the All-Commonwealth Conference team, as voted upon by the league's six head coaches and released Thursday.
DeMatteis led the Blue Jays with 17 goals and four assists for 38 points, including four multiple-goal games. She scored all four goals as the Blue Jays defeated Arcadia University 4-0 on Oct. 11, and tallied at least one goal in 11 of the team's 21 games.
Angstadt, a three-time second-team All-Conference selection, scored eight goals and eight assists for 24 points as the Blue Jays went 11-0 when she registered at least one point. For her career, she finished with 30 goals and 26 assists for 86 points in 79 games. Alex Wolfe of Lebanon Valley College was named conference Player of the Year, while Kourtney Ehly of Messiah College was Rookie of the Year and Jan Trapp of Messiah was Coach of the Year. Back to top 11/5/2008 Field hockey downed by LVC in conference semifinals ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Lebanon Valley 4, Elizabethtown 0 ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Jocelyn Novak scored three goals to propel seventh-ranked Lebanon Valley College to a 4-0 victory over 13th-ranked Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference field hockey semifinal action on Wednesday afternoon.Novak scored in the sixth, 35th and 39th minutes for the Flying Dutchmen (18-2 overall), who advance to Saturday's conference final against top-ranked Messiah College, which defeated Widener University 7-0 in Wednesday's other semifinal game. Lauren Seidenstricker also scored for Lebanon Valley, which used two goals in the final 2:18 of the first half to turn a 1-0 lead into a 3-0 advantage at halftime. Novak opened the scoring at 5:05 as she took a through pass from Alex Wolfe and scored her 27th goal of the season. After Seidenstricker netted her third of the year on a rebound at 32:42, Novak knocked home a crossing pass by Wolfe with just 13 seconds left in the first half to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead. In the second half, Novak scored her 29th of the year at 38:50 as she tipped home a shot by Avery Carter, off a penalty corner by Shelly Lobach. Lebanon Valley finished with an 18-10 advantage in shots over the Blue Jays, and held a 14-7 edge in penalty corners despite allowing five in the final six minutes. Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team is ranked 13th in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National
Coaches Poll for the fourth straight week, the NFHCA announced Tuesday. The Blue Jays (17-3 overall) concluded their regular season last week with wins over Susquehanna University (2-1) and Albright College (4-0), securing the third seed in this week's Commonwealth Conference playoffs. Elizabethtown's 17 wins are tied for the second-most in program history with the 1985 squad, trailing only the 20 victories recorded by the 1986 team.Messiah College moved into the top spot in this week's rankings, followed by Tufts University, Ursinus College, Bowdoin College and the College of New Jersey. The Blue Jays will play at seventh-ranked Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal. The winner will face the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal between Messiah and Widener University for the conference title on Saturday. Back to top 10/25/2008 Late flurry gives field hockey 4-1 win at Kean ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Elizabethtown 4, Kean 1 UNION, N.J. --- Elizabethtown College scored three goals in a span of 89 seconds late in the second half as the 13th-ranked Blue Jays defeated Kean University 4-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.Seniors Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) and Tiffany Vogel (Annville, PA/Palmyra) also scored for the Blue Jays, who managed just 11 shots on the Cougar goal but put four into the net. Vogel opened the scoring at 11:13 with her second goal of the season off a penalty corner by Angstadt, but Kean tied the score less than two minutes later as Brittany Gibbs was set up by Stephanie Cirino at 12:48. Noon scored her first goal of the day at 17:45 to push the Blue Jays ahead 2-1, but the Pride knotted the game again at 32:19 on a goal from Megan Scarpinato. The Blue Jays (13-2 overall) defeated 15th-ranked Gettysburg College 3-1 on Tuesday, and shut out Arcadia University 4-0 on Saturday to rise from 14th in last week's rankings. It is the sixth straight week that Elizabethtown has been ranked, and the second time this year that the Blue Jays have climbed as high as 13th in the poll. Bowdoin

The contest was delayed 55 minutes by lightning at halftime, and again for 55 minutes in the second half before the teams agreed to suspend action. The game will be completed at a date to be determined. Elizabethtown scored three times in the first half and once more in the second half to build their 4-0 lead, including a pair of goals from sophomore Liz DeMatteis (Newark, DE/St. Mark's). Back to top 9/4/2008 Blue Jays score twice in second half to down Franklin & Marshall, 3-1 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Elizabethtown 3, Franklin & Marshall 1 LANCASTER, Pa. --- Seniors Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep) and Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) each tallied a goal and an assist as Elizabethtown College improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory at Franklin & Marshall College in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon.
Elizabethtown led 1-0 at halftime as DeMatteis scored 14:26 into the match off an assist by Angstadt, but the Diplomats (0-1 overall) knotted the score 2:18 into the second half as Pam Cassidy tallied with an assist to Valerie Sauers. Miles netted her third goal of the year with 22:16 remaining to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead, and Angstadt added her first of the year on a feed from Miles with 3:56 to go to close the scoring. The Blue Jays finished with a 27-6 edge in shots over the Diplomats, and took 10 corners to four by Franklin & Marshall. Noon and Miles each scored in the first six minutes to give Elizabethtown a 2-0 lead, and Foster tallied on a penalty stroke with 11:06 gone to push the Blue Jays ahead 3-0. Miles and Noon each recorded their second goals of the afternoon later in the half as the Blue Jays took a 5-0 lead to halftime, on the strength of a 16-1 shot advantage. DeMatteis scored her third goal in two matches with 11:34 remaining to extend the Elizabethtown margin to 6-0, before Courtney DeAngelis broke up the shutout for the Mules on a goal with 7:09 to go. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead just 5:05 into the first half on a goal by Camilla Hansen, but DeMatteis scored at 7:26 and 15:12 to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 edge. Sophomore Ali Cavanaugh (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) extended the Etown lead to 3-1 at 25:53 with an assist to Foster, but Misericordia pulled within 3-2 with 7:05 left in the first half on a goal by Haley Ellis. In the second half, the Blue Jays went ahead 4-2 with 11:34 to go as senior Alison Duval (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) scored her first goal of the year with Foster picking up her second assist of the day. Elizabethtown held a 20-7 edge in shots over Misericordia and took 12 penalty corners to three by the Cougars, scoring on three of them. The Blue Jays, who annually play one of the toughest schedules in Division III, went to overtime seven times during the 2007 season, including a pair of losses to eventual conference champion Messiah College. Nearly all of the Blue Jays' offense returns for sixth-year head coach Sharon Sweger, as returning players accounted for 48 of the team's 53 goals last season. Leading the Blue Jay attack is senior forward Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley), who paced the team with 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points last season. She is joined up front by fellow senior Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep), who tallied eight goals and five assists, and juniorBrenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing), who added nine goals and two assists. Both Angstadt and Noon were second-team All-Conference choices last season. Back to top 9/4/2008 Field Hockey Tied for Second in Commonwealth Poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Field Hockey Tied for Second in Commonwealth Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College is tied for second in the 2008 Commonwealth Conference field hockey preseason coaches poll, as voted upon by the league's six head coaches and released Tuesday. The Blue Jays finished 11-8 overall and in third place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 2-2 record last season, and sixth-year head coach Sharon Sweger welcomes back nine starters and 12 letterwinners. Among the top returnees are first-team All-Commonwealth Conference defender Caitlin Smith along with second-team forwards Megan Angstadt, who posted team highs of 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points, and Brenna Noon who added nine goals last season. Junior goalkeeper Liz Hannegan also returns after posting an 8-3 record with four shutouts and a 1.21 goals against average in 11 games. Earning the top spot in the poll was Lebanon Valley College, as the Dutchmen earned three first-place votes and 29 total points. The Blue Jays were tied with defending champion Messiah College at 25 points, with the Falcons taking two first-place votes and Elizabethtown one. Rounding out the poll are Widener University (20 points), Albright College (15 points) and conference newcomer Arcadia University (11 points). Vogel, a third-team selection, is the eighth Blue Jay player to earn All-America honors and the first since Mel Slessinger was named to the third team in 2005. Earlier this month, Vogel was named first-team All-South Atlantic Region and first-team All-Commonwealth Conference.
They helped the Blue Jays to a 17-4 overall record and third place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 3-2 mark. Elizabethtown was ranked 13th in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Coaches Poll, through games of Nov. 9.
