Elizabethtown Finishes Ninth at Bent Creek Invitational

LITITZ, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished ninth out of 17 teams at the Bent Creek Invitational, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Jays turned in a round of 328, while tournament winner Franklin & Marshall shot 297 to win by 19 strokes over runners-up Rutgers-Camden and Wesley College.

Leading finisher for Elizabethtown was senior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) who tied for sixth place with a five-over-par round of 76. Sophomore Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) tied for 43rd place with an 83, while first-year student Dan Bolstein (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) tied for 48th with an 84.

Dennis Gunderson of F&M was medalist with a one-under-par round of 70, followed in second by teammate Andrew Woods with a 71.

HARRISBURG, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished fourth out of 16 teams at the Messiah College Falcon Classic, held at the Blue Ridge Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Jays shot 321 as a team to finish behind tournament champion Rutgers-Camden (302), Muhlenberg College (307) and the host Falcons (315).

Senior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) tied for 10th place with a round of 77 for the Blue Jays, followed by junior Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) in 17th place at 79 and sophomore Alex Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) in a tie for 27th place with an 82.

The Elizabethtown "B" team finished in eighth place with a round of 334, as first-year student Andy McDonough (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) shot a 76 to finish in ninth place.

Elizabethtown Sixth at Susquehanna Invitational

HUMMELS WHARF, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished sixth out of 18 teams at the Susquehanna University Invitational, held at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays' round of 309 was the team's best score since a round of 303 at Messiah on April 3, 2004.

Junior Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was the Blue Jays' top finisher as he tied for second overall with a round of 73. Senior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) turned in a 75, with sophomore Alex Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) at 79.

Franklin & Marshall College shot 303 to win the team title, followed by Muhlenberg College (304), Wilkes University (304), host Susquehanna (308), McDaniel College (308) and Elizabethtown (309). Nick Paone of Susquehanna was the medalist with a round of 72.

HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished sixth out of 12 teams at the Blue Jay Classic, held Thursday at the Hershey Links.

Leading the Blue Jays to a round of 326 was sophomore Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) who shot a 76 to finish in a tie for sixth place. Sophomore Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) tied for 19th with an 81, while junior Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) fired an 82 to tie for 22nd place.

The Blue Jay "B" team finished in eighth place with a score of 335, led by sophomore  Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) who shot an 82. Junior John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) competed as an individual for Elizabethtown and tied for 12th place with a 79.

Franklin & Marshall College won the team championship with a score of 305, followed by Moravian College (314), Dickinson College (315), Messiah College (320) and York College (321). John Dimler of Moravian was the medalist with a round of 74, with four players finishing a stroke back at 75.

LEBANON, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished 14th out of 21 teams at the Lebanon Valley College Fall Invitational at the Lebanon Country Club on Monday afternoon, shooting 322 as a team.

Senior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished with a career-best round of 72 (even par) to place fifth in the individual standings. His previous low round as a Blue Jay was 75, done four times.

Junior Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) finished with an 80, while sophomore Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) fired an 83.  Sophomore Alex Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) came in with an 87, and junior John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) shot 88.

First-year student Dan Bolstein (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) competed as an individual for the Blue Jays and shot 82 in his first collegiate action.

Cabrini College won the team title with a score of 295, followed by Franklin & Marshall College (296), York College (298), Rutgers-Camden (298) and Moravian College (299). Tim Harner of Cabrini shot three-under-par 69 to win the individual title by two strokes.

Blue Jays Defeat Albright and Lebanon Valley

READING, Pa. --- Defending Commonwealth Conference golf champion Elizabethtown College opened its 2008-09 season by defeating Albright College and Lebanon Valley College in action at the Berkshire Country Club on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Jays shot 313 as a team to finish 15 strokes ahead of Albright and Lebanon Valley, which tied at 328.

Senior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) was the top individual finisher among the 15 players on the course, shooting a 75.

Sophomore Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) took third with a round of 78, and first-year student Kent Hersom (Edgecomb, ME/Wiscasset) tied for fourth with a 79.

Finishing out the lineup for the Blue Jays were junior John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) with an 81 and sophomore Alex Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) at 84.

YORK, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team posted a second-place finish at the eight-team York College Spring Invitational at the Out Door Country Club on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Jays shot 324 as a team to finish second behind the host Spartans, who placed five players in the top seven individuals to win the tournament with a score of 310.

The top finisher for the Blue Jays was first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School), who shot a 77 to finish in second place, three shots behind medalist Cody Trabert of York.

Senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) and first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) tied for 11th place with a round of 82, followed by sophomore John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) in a tie for 14th place at 83.

Elizabethtown College Finishes 26th at NCAA Division III Golf Championships

BRASELTON, Ga. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished 26th out of 35 teams at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Chateau Elan Golf Resort, in their first-ever appearance at the national tournament.

The Blue Jays, who were tied for 22nd place after day one, shot 328 as a team on Wednesday to drop to 26th place. The top 23 teams made the cut for the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) was the top individual finisher for the Blue Jays, shooting an 80 on Wednesday to end the tournament with a 36-hole total of 159.

Senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) had the team's lowest score in round two, carding a 78 to finish with a total of 160.

Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) shot 85 to reach a final score of 167, followed by first-year students Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) at 172 and Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) with a 179.

St. John Fisher College leads the team standings with a two-day score of 596, six strokes on top of Oglethorpe University (602). Scott Harris of St. John Fisher remains the individual leader at 139, three strokes under par and four shots ahead of second-place Will Scarborough of Wesley College.

Elizabethtown College Tied For 22nd After Day One of NCAA Golf Championships

BRASELTON, Ga. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team is in a three-way tie for 22nd place after day one of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Chateau Elan Golf Resort, after shooting 323 as a team on Tuesday.

Playing the Chateau Course, the Blue Jays were led by first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) who carded a six-over-par 77 and is tied for 44th overall. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) fired a 79 and is tied for 62nd place, while senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) finished with an 82 to stand in a tie for 99th place.

Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) eagled the 13th hole and ended the round with an 85, while first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) came in with a 91.

The Blue Jays are tied for 22nd place in the team standings with Illinois Wesleyan University and Washington & Lee University. The University of La Verne shot 291 as a team to hold a 10-stroke lead over Skidmore College following day one. Scott Harris of St. John Fisher College is the individual leader after shooting 68 on Tuesday.

Play will continue on Wednesday as the Blue Jays compete in round two on the Woodlands Course. Following the second round, the field will be cut to the top 23 teams, who will finish the tournament with rounds three and four on Thursday and Friday.

Elizabethtown College Wins First-Ever Conference Golf Championships, Qualifies for NCAA Tournament

HERSHEY, Pa. --- For the first time in program history, the Elizabethtown College golf team won a conference team championship as the Blue Jays captured the Commonwealth Conference title at the Hershey Country Club East Course on Sunday.

The Blue Jays, who finished last at the Commonwealth Conference championship last season, shot 317 on Sunday after carding 316 on Saturday. Their two-day total of 633 was 18 strokes better than runner-up Albright College (651).

With their win, the Blue Jays earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia, to be held May 13-16.

Individually, the Blue Jays placed four golfers among the top six finishers. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) took second with a two-day total of 156, while senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) was third with an identical score of 156.

First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) earned Rookie of the Year honors after finishing fourth with a total of 159, and sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) placed sixth with a score of 162.

First-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) tied for 19th overall in the field of 30 players with a two-day total of 177.

Albright's Mike Heller was the individual champion with a two-day score of 153 off rounds of 74 and 79, defeating Wagner and Gross by three strokes. Heller was named Player of the Year while Blue Jay head coach Keith Marks was honored by his peers as Coach of the Year.

Blue Jays Lead By Four Shots After Day One of Commonwealth Conference Golf Championships

HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's golf team holds the lead after day one of the Commonwealth Conference Golf Championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course, shooting 316 as a team on Saturday to lead Messiah College by four shots.

Individually, senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) led the Blue Jays with a round of 75 on Saturday, placing him in second place in the individual standings behind Albright College's Mike Heller, who fired a three-over-par 74.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) is tied for third place at 76 with Ben Horst of Messiah, and first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) is in sixth place after shooting an 80.

Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) carded an 85 and is in 15th place after day one, and first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) rounded out the Blue Jay scoring with an 88 to stand in a tie for 20th.

The Blue Jays, who finished last at the conference meet one year ago, lead Messiah by four shots, with Albright (326) 10 strokes back. The team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia, to be held May 13-16.

Golf Team In Action at Commonwealth Championships

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team is set to compete at the Commonwealth Conference championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course this weekend.

Six schools will vie for the team title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships during the 36-hole event, which begins Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and concludes on Sunday.

After finishing seventh at last year's championships, the Blue Jays are poised to make a run from bottom to top at this year's meet.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) is the Blue Jays' number-one player after a strong spring season in which he averaged 78.5 strokes per round and had three top-10 finishes.

First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) is one of two rookies in the lineup for the Blue Jays, and averaged 80.7 over nine rounds this season. He had four top-10 finishes and tied for first in a tri-match with Lebanon Valley and Messiah on Oct. 10.

Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) is third in the lineup, and averaged 83.0 in 10 rounds during the season. He had four top-10 finishes and shot a season-best 77 on the Hershey East course on April 10.

Also making his conference tourney debut is first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School). He competed in six rounds during the season, averaging 80.2 strokes per round, and had three top-10 finishes including a win in the 34-player Messiah Invitational on Tuesday with a round of 78.

Rounding out the Blue Jay lineup is senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), who played 11 rounds during the season and averaged 82.5. He had three top-10 finishes in the fall and has broken 80 in two of his last three rounds.

Dan Senkler Takes Medalist Honors as Blue Jays Compete at Messiah Invitational

HARRISBURG, Pa. --- First-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) shot a 78 to win the Messiah College Invitational at Blue Ridge Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Senkler won by one stroke over Lebanon Valley College's Steve Garby, with first-year student Justin Lizik (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) tying for third with an 80.

Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) finished in a tie for sixth with a score of 81, and sophomore John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) was in a tie for eighth at 82.

First-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) also finished in the top 20 for Elizabethtown as he tied for 11th with a score of 83.

Messiah won the team event with a score of 332, followed by Albright College (333), Lebanon Valley (334) and the Elizabethtown B team (336). Alvernia College (350) and the Elizabethtown A squad (352) rounded out the field.

Elizabethtown Finishes Eighth at Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational

MOOSIC, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished eighth out of 12 schools at the two-day Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Scranton at Glenmaura National Golf Club.

The Blue Jays shot 334 in Sunday's first round and followed up with a team score of 318 for a two-day total of 652.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished in a tie for 16th with a score of 158, off rounds of 81 and 77. Senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) tied for 24th place at 161 after shooting 83 and 78, and first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished tied for 38th with a 166 following rounds of 87 and 79.

Junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) tied for 49th place with a score of 173, after shooting 83 and 90, and sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) shot 92 and 84 to finish 53rd with a 176.

McDaniel College won the team title with a two-day score of 599 (307 and 292), while Susquehanna University's Scott Cruff was the medalist after turning in rounds of 71 and 74 for a one-stroke win over Zach Lavoie of McDaniel.

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College finished fifth out of 17 teams as the Bent Creek Spring Invitational, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College on Monday, with a score of 314.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) shot a 75 to finish in seventh place and lead the Blue Jays, with senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) and first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) tying for 24th place at 79.

first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) and John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) each shot 81 and tied for 33rd place, and junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) carded an 84 and finished tied for 49th.

Wesley College shot 292 to win the team title, and the Wolverines' Chris Osberg fired a five-under-par 66 to win the individual title by four shots over teammate Michael Rustin.

Five of the six Commonwealth Conference schools participated in the tournament, and the Blue Jays finished first among those teams by eight shots over Albright College.

HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team hosted the Spring Blue Jay Classic at the Hershey Country Club East Course on Thursday, finishing tied for third out of 15 teams with a score of 315.

First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) was the Blue Jays' top finisher with a season-best round of 76, followed by sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) at 77 and junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) with an 80.

The Blue Jay "B" squad shot 335 and finished in 12th place, with first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) leading the team with a round of 78.

Susquehanna University shot 290 to win the team title, and Crusader senior Pat Serfass took medalist honors with a one-under-par round of 70. Franklin & Marshall College finished second at 305 with Dickinson College tied with Elizabethtown for third at 315.

HARRISBURG, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished second in a quad match hosted by Penn State Harrisburg at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Jays shot 327 as a team, finishing behind the host Lions (314) and ahead of Philadelphia Biblical University (337) and Penn State Mont Alto (345).

First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) was the top player for the Blue Jays with a score of 79, followed by junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) at 79 and first-year student Stephen Powell (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) at 85.

Also playing for the Blue Jays were sophomores Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) at 86, along with junior Eric Salansky (Union Dale, PA/Mountain View) at 89.

Nick Reed of Penn State Harrisburg had the low round of the day with a 76, followed by Quinque and teammate Geoff Morrison at 77.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College finished 11th out of 21 teams at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational at the Lebanon Country Club on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Jays carded a 345 as a team, finishing 24 shots behind tournament champion Albright College, which shot 321 as a team to finish two strokes ahead of runner-up Widener University.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished fourth overall with a round of 77, three shots behind tournament winner Kyle Durham of Widener.

first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) finished tied for 27th place with a score of 84, and sophomore John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and first-year student Alex Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) tied for 64th place as each shot 92.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team opened its 2008 spring schedule with a 10th-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational at the par-72 Links at Gettysburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) turned in the best round of the day for the Blue Jays with an 81, good for a tie for seventh place in a field of 64 golfers.

Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) tied for 30th place with an 86, while first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) fired an 88 and junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) carded a 99.

McDaniel College won the team title with a score of 310, while Susquehanna University's Scott Cruff was the individual medalist with a 74. The Blue Jays finished with a score of 354 as a team.
