Back to top 1/26/2008 Etown women defeat Widener, men fall in final dual meet of season ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Elizabethtown Swimming Splits With Widener ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College swimming split with Widener University on Saturday afternoon, as the Blue Jay men were defeated 151-41, while the women won by a score of 120-74. Junior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) was the lone winner for the Etown men (5-8) on the day, winning the 200 back in 2:00.86. The Blue Jay women (6-7) were led by junior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser). Brizek posted wins in the 200 IM (2:24.54) and 200 back (2:23.26). Sophomore Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) won the 100 free (57.46), and on senior day, senior Lindsay Kollmeier (Sewell, NJ/Ursuline Academy) won the 1000 free (12:48.47). Sophomore Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus) won the 500 free (5:47.98), while junior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) touched first in the 200 breast (2:38.75). Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College swimming teams fell to visiting
University of Scranton in non-conference action on Saturday, as the men
were defeated 94-88 and the women fell 110-92. The Blue Jays won the 400 medley relay, with the group of Miller, senior Dan McGuigan (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), senior Darren DiObilda (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Prep) and sophomore Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) winning in a time of 3:50.79. Also winning for Etown was the 400 free relay team of Provence, senior Ryan Schutz (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts), first-year student Kyle Ashe (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) and sophomore Kevin Smedman (Fort Montgomery, NY/James I. O'Neill) in 3:43.98. In women's action, the Blue Jays (5-7 overall) received two wins from junior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) and sophomore Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), with Brizek winning the 200 IM (2:23.30) and 100 back (1:07.33) while Riley won the 50 free (26.57 seconds) and 100 free (57.92 seconds). Junior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) also claimed a victory by winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.32. Riley, Geiger, first-year student Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) and Brizek won the 400 medley relay in 4:25.61. In men's action, junior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) picked up victories in the 1000 freestyle (10:40.36) and 200 backstroke (2:03.53), while sophomore Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) won the 50 freestyle (23.32 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (51.43 seconds). In relays, the Blue Jays (5-6 overall) competed unopposed, with Miller, McGuigan, DiObilda and Drob finishing the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:55.69, and the 200 free relay team of sophomore Dan Provence (Brookhaven, PA/Penncrest), senior Ryan Schutz (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts), first-year student Kyle Ashe (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) and sophomore Kevin Smedman (Fort Montgomery, NY/James I. O'Neill) clocking in 1:40.59. In women's action, the Blue Jays (5-6 overall) picked up two victories apiece from junior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) in the 200 freestyle (2:08.46) and 200 backstroke (2:24.06), and sophomore Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) in the 50 freestyle (26.43 seconds) and 100 freestyle (57.82 seconds). Junior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) also claimed a victory by winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.65. In women's action, the Blue Jays (4-6 overall, 4-2 MAC) earned an individual victory in the 100 breaststroke as junior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) was clocked in 1:12.75. The Blue Jays also claimed a relay victory over the Lions (6-2 overall, 5-0 MAC) as junior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/ Conrad Weiser), Gretchen Geiger, first-year student Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) and first-year student Molly Goldrick (Hampden, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) won the 200 medley relay in 2:02.76. Elizabethtown's men (4-6 overall, 4-2 MAC) also claimed just one individual victory over the Lions (5-3 overall, 4-1 MAC) as sophomore Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) won the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.19 seconds.
