Elizabethtown Takes Ninth in DMR at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's distance medley relay team finished ninth out of 12 schools at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday evening.

The Blue Jays were timed in 12:22.37 for the 4,000-meter race, coming in ahead of Division I schools Army and Norfolk State along with the Tennessee "B" team that did not finish.

The time of 12:22.37 was the third-fastest in program history and just eight seconds shy of the school record as well as an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time.

Senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) ran the 1,200 meters in 3:47.7, before passing along to graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE) who went 59.9 in the 400 meters. Sophomore Megan VanDenHengel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) followed with a 2:24.0 in the 800 meters and junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) finished the 1,600 meters in 5:10.3.

Elizabethtown to Compete in Distance Medley Relay at Penn State National Invitational

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College will send men's and women's distance medley relay teams to compete at the Penn State National Invitational indoor track and field meet on Friday night, Jan. 25.

The Blue Jay men's team will feature an all-senior quartet of Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) in the 1,200 meters, Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) in the 400 meters, Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) in the 800 meters and Ryan St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) in the 1,600 meters.

Provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championships in the distance medley relay on a 200-meter banked track is 10:07.00, and the school record is 9:58.76 set on Feb. 12, 2005 by the foursome of Tyson Evensen, Graybeal, Patrick Donovan and Steve Sanko.

Competing for the Blue Jay women will be senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) in the 1,200 meters, graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE) in the 400 meters, sophomore Megan VanDenHengel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) in the 800 meters and junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) in the 1,600 meters.

They will be aiming for the NCAA Division III provisional time of 12:15.50 as well as the school record of 12:14.37 set on March 5, 2005 by Katie Garner, Betsy Burroughs, Nicole Murphy and Melissa St. Clair.

The women's distance medley relay is scheduled to begin at 8:50 p.m. on Friday evening followed by the men's DMR at 9:20 p.m. Fifteen women's teams and 19 men's teams have been accepted for entry into the meet.

Blue Jays In Action at Susquehanna University

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's track and field team saw action at the non-scoring Orange & Maroon Classic on the campus of Susquehanna University on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Megan VanDenHengel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) won the mile run with a time of 5:22.79, finishing nearly six seconds ahead of the runner-up, while first-year student Kristin Bowen (West Chester, PA/Downingtown West) was fourth in 5:36.71.

First-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.28 seconds, sophomore Sarah Merusi (Montague, NJ/Port Jervis, NY) was fifth in the 800 meters (2:36.11), senior Meghan Ryder (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) took sixth in the 800 meters (2:39.59).

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Blue Jays took second in a time of 4:20.34 behind the team of VanDenHengel, Ryder, graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE), who posted a split of 61.0 seconds, and Merusi.

In field events, junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) finished third in the long jump at 4.86 meters (15 feet, 11 1/2 inches) and took fifth in the high jump at 1.47 meters (4 feet, 9 3/4 inches), while senior Jenna Riley (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) was fifth in the triple jump at 9.59 meters (31 feet, 5 3/4 inches).

First-year student Lauren Riley (Sanatoga, PA/Pottsgrove) cleared 3.05 meters in the pole vault (10 feet) to finish in third place, while senior Samantha Adams (Mickleton, NJ/Padua Academy, DE) was fifth at 2.60 meters (8 feet, 6 1/4 inches).

Blue Jays Compete at Gulden Relays

LEWISBURG, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's track and field team competed at the Gulden Relays on the campus of Bucknell University on Saturday, competing against a field of Division I, II and III schools in a non-scoring meet.

Junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) won the one mile run in a time of 5:13.43 against field that included 13 Division I runners among the 18 entries. One of the non-Division I entries was her teammate, senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) who took second in a time of 5:15.63.

First-year student Lauren Riley (Sanatoga, PA/Pottsgrove) finished fifth in the pole vault and was just shy of school record with a vault of 3.00 meters (9 feet, 10 inches), senior Sarah Grove (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) took seventh in the 3,000 meters (11:16.14) and first-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.79 seconds.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's), sophomore Sarah Merusi (Montague, NJ/Port Jervis, NY), junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Kulp took fourth with a time of 4:23.22.
