Back to top 1/22/2008 Blue Jays win seven matches to defeat Gettysburg, 40-3 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WRESTLING Elizabethtown Routs Gettysburg, 40-3 GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College won seven of eight contested bouts to pick up a 40-3 victory over host Gettysburg College in non-conference wrestling action on Tuesday evening. The Blue Jays (5-7 overall) received a pin from first-year student Bill Meaney (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Township) at 184 pounds in 2:09, along with a technical fall by sophomore Mike Lussier (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) by a 15-0 score in 3:53 at 165 pounds. Winning by major decision were sophomore Eric Rhoads (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) by a 12-1 score at 133 pounds and first-year student Josh Cook (Gardners, PA/Boiling Springs) by an 11-2 score at 174 pounds. Victories by decision came from sophomore Drew Winegar (Chatsworth, NJ/Seneca) at 141 pounds, sophomore Bud Croswell (Newark, DE/Sanford School) at 149 pounds by an 11-10 score on a last-second reversal, and sophomore Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) at 285 pounds by a 3-1 score in the first sudden-victory period. Wins by forfeit were credited to first-year student Marty Harnish (Marietta, PA/Donegal) at 125 pounds and sophomore Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) at 197 pounds against the Bullets (1-8 overall). Bobby Christopher (G), 3-1 (SV-1) (40-3) Back to top 1/16/2008 23rd- ranked Messiah claims 19-18 win over Etown ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WRESTLING Messiah Captures 19-18 Win Over Elizabethtown GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Nationally-ranked essiah College edged Elizabethtown College 19-18 in non-conference wrestling action on Wednesday evening. The Blue Jays (4-7 overall) won five bouts on the evening against the 23rd-ranked Falcons (8-7 overall), but a major-decision win at 174 pounds proved to be the difference for Messiah. First-year student Marty Harnish (Marietta, PA/Donegal) picked up a 5-2 victory at 125 pounds for the Blue Jays, while junior Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) claimed a 3-1 win at 157 pounds to bring Etown within 9-6. After a fall and a major decision gave Messiah a 19-6 lead, Elizabethtown came with back-to-back wins by decision, as first-year student Bill Meaney (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.) captured a 7-6 win at 184 pounds and sophomore Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) was an 8-4 winner at 197 pounds. Sophomore Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) wrapped up the evening with a fall in 48 seconds at 285 pounds. The Stevens entry at 184 pounds was subsequently determined to be
ineligible, therefore Stevens forfeited that weight class and gave
Elizabethtown three more team points and the win. First year student Marty Harnish (Marietta, PA/Donegal) started the dual meet with a 3rd period fall over Kyle Brisson to give the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead, Stevens came back to win the next two matches for a 7-6 lead. Sophomore Bud Croswell (Newark, DE/Sanford School) held off Leo Dormann to win by decision 7-5 to give the Blue Jays a 9-7 lead. The Blue Jays (4-6 overall) needed to win the final three weights to win the dual meet, at 184lbs, first year student Josh Cook (Gardners, PA/Boiling Springs) kept the victory in sight with a 6-5 decision win (Later won by forfeit), sophomore Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville) put Etown up 18-17 by recording his 3rd fall of the season at the 6:27 mark over Ernie Guaimano. The dual meet came down to the 285lb wrestlers, and sophomore Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) went into to overtime with James Roarty after a 1-1 regulation score. In the first ride-out period, Katzaman was able to escape to take a 2-1 lead, but in the 2nd ride-out period, Katzaman was called for a penalty point for locking hands and couldn’t hold onto to Roarty dropping a 3-2 sudden-victory decision to give Stevens (2-1 overall) the win. In other Blue Jay wrestling action, a group of Etown wrestlers competed at the Ursinus College Homecoming Invitational. Sophomore Josh Herbert (Middletown, OH/Madison) took second at 197 pounds while sophomore Mike Daub (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) was third at 285 pounds to help Elizabethtown finish seventh out of nine schools with 21.5 points. Elizabethtown 21, Stevens 20 Back to top 1/9/2008 Blue Jays split dual matches with NYU and Muhlenberg ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WRESTLING Elizabethtown Splits Matches Against NYU and Muhlenberg ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Jereme Heisey (Manheim PA/Manheim Central) earned bonus point wins in both matches this afternoon as Elizabethtown College split duals with New York University and Muhlenberg College. Elizabethtown lost to NYU 26-13 before defeating Muhlenberg 26-15. The Blue Jays (4-5) dropped the first match 26-13 to New York University, with wins by decision from sophomore Bud Croswell (Newark, DE/Sanford School), sophomore Deron Sharp (Millville, NJ/Millville), and sophomore Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) while Heisey picked up a 13-2 major decision over John Dack. In the second contest of the afternoon, Elizabethtown defeated Muhlenberg 26-15. The Blue Jays got a first period fall from first year student Marty Harnish (Marietta, PA/Donegal) over Dan McEnroy in 1:16 to go up 6-0. First-year student Jarrod Cawley (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) kept the momentum going with a 7-0 victory over Michael Slevin to give the Blue Jays a 9-0 lead. The Mules earned hard fought victories at 141 and 149lbs, then Heisey put the Blue Jays up 19-6 with his fall over Matt Friedman in just 50 seconds, for his 14th win of the season. The final two weights were won by the Blue Jays, at 197 pounds Sharp won by major decision over Bill Sholly 13-2 and at 285 pounds Katzaman was victorious by decision over Joe Tartar 7-3.
