Men's cross country wins "Buggy"

Elizabethtown Wins "Battle For the Buggy"

LANCASTER, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's cross country team won the Battle for the Buggy at Lancaster County Central Park on Saturday, placing seven runners among the top 14 finishers to capture the team title.

Elizabethtown's team score of 35 points easily outranked runner-up Bloomsburg University (74 points) and third-place Shippensburg University (90 points) in the field of 17 teams and 113 runners.

Senior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) took fourth overall with a time of 20:34.62 over the slightly less than 6,000-meter course, which will host the Middle Atlantic Conference championships next weekend.

First-year student Evan DeArmitt (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) followed in seventh place (20:54.35) with sophomore Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) in eighth (20:54.83) and first-year student Russell Speiden (Brookeville, MD/Sherwood) coming home in tenth place (20:58.10).

Other top performers for the Blue Jays were senior Scott Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) in 11th place (20:58.59), senior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) taking 12th place (21:01.68) and first-year student Colby Miller (Oak Hill, VA/Flint Hill School) in 14th with a time of 21:07.27.

The overall race winner was 2006 Elizabethtown graduate Greg Wetzel, who crossed the line in a time of 20:00.70. Fellow Blue Jay alum Nate Moore (20:39.71, fifth) also turned in top-10 performances.

Etown men win Juniata Invitational

Elizabethtown 1st of 11 at Juniata Eagle Invitational

ALTOONA, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's cross country won the 11-school Juniata College Eagle Invitational at Fort Roberdeau on Saturday morning, scoring 29 points to easily defeat runner-up Juniata (62 points) and Susquehanna University (69 points).

Ten Blue Jays were among the top 18 finishers in the field of 106 runners on the 7,500-meter course, including five in the top 10.

Senior Scott Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) led the Blue Jay contingent with a third-place finish in a time of 25:29.6. Finishing fifth through eighth, respectively, were first-year student Eric Reichert (Hershey, PA/Hershey) in 25:51.5, junior Myles Lund (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) in 25:52.0, first-year student Charlie Larsen (Phoenix, MD/Dulaney) in 25:55.3 and first-year student Evan DeArmitt (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) in 25:56.3.

Senior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) was 11th in 26:00.4, first-year student Colby Miller (Oak Hill, VA/Flint Hill School) took 12th in 26:04.3, and sophomore Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) crossed the line 15th in a time of 26:08.0
