Swim teams split with Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's and women's swimming teams split a dual meet with host Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday night. The Blue Jay women picked up their fifth straight win by a 112-87 score, while the men fell to the Dutchmen 113-79.

In women's action, the Blue Jays (5-3 overall, 4-1 MAC) received two wins apiece from junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) in the 50 freestyle (28.97 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:12.93) along with first-year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) in the 400 freestyle (4:57.76) and 800 freestyle (10:12.41).

Also claiming wins were senior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) in the 200 individual medley (2:37.61), sophomore Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) in the 200 freestyle (2:24.70) and sophomore Stephanie Hellman (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) in the 100 freestyle (1:04.68).

The Etown men (2-6 overall, 2-3 MAC) claimed wins in seven of the 11 events, with senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest), junior Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) and sophomore Tom Hagerty (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) winning twice each.

Miller took victories in the 200 individual medley (2:28.07) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.77), Drob won the 50 freestyle (25.59 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (8.32 seconds) and Hagerty took victories in the 100 butterfly (1:06.74) and the 400 freestyle (4:40.74).

The 200-meter medley relay team of Miller, junior Dan Provence (Brookhaven, PA/Penncrest), Drob and Hagerty also won their event with a time of 2:02.13.

Swim teams pick up wins over FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. --- The Elizabethtown College men's and women's swimming teams earned dual-meet victories over FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon, as the men picked up a 70-41 win while the Blue Jay women downed the Devils 119-71.

In women's action, the Blue Jays (4-3 overall, 3-1 MAC) won their fourth straight dual meet as six different swimmers won individual events. Senior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) won the 200 freestyle (2:09.21), senior Sarah Berry (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) took the 200 butterfly (2:38.69), junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) captured the 100 freestyle (58.38 seconds), sophomore Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) was first in the 200 backstroke (2:25.25), sophomore Stephanie Hellman (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) was victorious in the 50 freestyle (26.81 seconds) and first-year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) won the 1000 freestyle (11:41.84)

The 400-yard medley relay team of Riley, senior Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Brizek and Hellman also picked up a win in a time of 4:28.63.

The Etown men (2-5 overall, 2-2 MAC) received two wins each from senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and juniors Dan Provence (Brookhaven, PA/Penncrest) and Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg).

Miller won the 50 free (23.88 seconds) and 500 free (5:05.28), Provence took the 100 free (53.19) and Drob won the 200 back (2:14.94). Provence and Drob also tied for first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.00.

Sophomore Tom Hagerty (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) also earned a win by capturing the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:24.94.

Swimmers split tri meet with Messiah and Susquehanna

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College hosted a tri-meet in swimming action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Pool.  The Blue Jay men were defeated 128-66 by Messiah College and 108-65 by Susquehanna University, but Elizabethtown's women won both meets defeating Messiah 116-71 and Susquehanna 117-70.

For the women (3-3), first year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) continued her dominance of the distance events, capturing the 1000 free in a time of 11:39.60 and the 500 free in 5:42.23.  Junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) was victorious in the 50 freestyle (26.27).

Sophomore Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) touched first in the 200 freestyle (2:07.93), while senior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) won the 200 IM in 2:23.50. 

The Blue Jay women also won the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Brizek, junior Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus), sophomore Stephanie Hellman (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Catholic), and Riley captured the win in 1:46.56.

For the men (1-5), senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest)  won a trio of events, capturing the 200 freestyle (1:52.71), the 100 backstroke (58.20) and the 500 freestyle (5:06.00).

In the other leg of the meet, Susquehanna defeated Messiah 106-93 in men's action and 108-79 in women's competition.

Swimming sweeps past King's

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Host Elizabethtown College picked up men's and women's victories in Middle Atlantic Conference swimming action against King's College, defeating the Monarchs 130-99 in men's action and 151-92 in women's competition.

The Blue Jay women (1-3 overall, 1-1 MAC) won the first 11 events against the Lady Monarchs (1-3 overall, 0-2 MAC) before swimming exhibition for the final three races.

Earning a pair of victories were senior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) in the 50 freestyle (26.92 seconds) and 1000 freestyle (11:56.02), junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) in the 100 backstroke (1:06.18) and 100 freestyle (59.27 seconds), junior Danielle Hopkins (Franklin, MA/Franklin) in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.67) and 200 breaststroke (2:48.30) and first-year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) in the 200 freestyle (2:10.87) and 500 freestyle (5:53.63).

Sophomore Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) won the 200 backstroke (2:22.15) and senior Sarah Berry (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) captured the 200 butterfly (2:39.23). The 200 medley relay team of Brizek, Hopkins, junior Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus) and Riley finished first with a time of 2:06.97.

For the men (1-3 overall, 1-1 MAC), junior Dan Provence (Brookhaven, PA/Penncrest) and junior Matt Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) each won three individual events, as Provence took the 50 freestyle in 24.97 seconds, the 200 freestyle in 1:59.80 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.35 while Drob won the 100 freestyle (52.56 seconds), 100 butterfly (1:00.42) and the 200 individual medley (2:21.79).

Senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) added wins in the 1000 freestyle (10:42.30) and 500 freestyle (5:06.88), sophomore Tom Hagerty (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) won the 200 butterfly (2:21.61), junior Kevin Smedman (Fort Montgomery, NY/James I. O'Neill) took first in the 200 backstroke (2:17.62) and first-year student Dan Bolstein (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) was the winner in the 100 backstroke (1:02.39).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Provence, Hagerty, Miller and Drob capped the meet by finishing first in a time of 1:45.24.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College hosted Lycoming College in Middle Atlantic Conference swimming action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Pool.  The Blue Jay men were defeated 117-60 and the women fell 105-100.

For the women (0-3), first year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) won both the distance events, capturing the 1000 free in a time of 11:46.93 and the 500 free in 5:39.84.  junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) was victorious in the 100 freestyle (57.94).

Sophomore Courtney Kelly (Guilford, CT/Guilford) touched first in the 200 freestyle (2:08.34) and also won the 200 backstroke in 2:22.10.  The 200 freestyle relay team of junior Kara Geiger(Zionsville, PA/Emmaus), junior Sara Crimmel (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock), Robinson, and sophomore Stephanie Hellman (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) captured the win in 1:47.91.

For the men (0-3), senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest)  won a pair of events, capturing the 400 IM (4:42.35) and the 500 freestyle (5:12.33). Junior Dan Provence (Brookhaven, PA/Penncrest) won the 200 breastroke for the Blue Jays in 2:43.24.

Blue Jays drop non-conference meet at York

Elizabethtown Defeated by York in Swim Action, 120-67 (men) and 110-90 (women)

YORK, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College swimming teams fell to York College on Wednesday evening, 120-67 for the men and 110-90 for the women.

For the women (1-2 overall), sophomore Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) won two events, capturing the 50 free (26.36) and 100 back (1:06.36), and first-year student Molly Goldrick (Hampden, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) took the 100 breast (1:21.22).

For the men (1-2 overall), junior Tim Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) picked up a victory in the 100 breast (1:07.06), and junior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) was victorious in the 500 free (5:09.41).

Both teams posted wins in the 200 free relay, as the women touched the wall in 1:53.53, and men in 1:43.80.

Swimmers take on York in non-conference action

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's and women's swimming teams were defeated by visiting York College on Wednesday evening, as the men fell 163-33 and the women were dropped 123-82.

The Blue Jay men (0-2) were paced by senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) who posted a win in the 200 freestyle (1:52.15). 

For the women (0-2), junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) led the Blue Jays with two wins, in the 50 freestyle (26.31) and 100 freestyle (57.94).  First year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) was victorious in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:37.98.

Swimming opens season with Dickinson

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2008-09 season with Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils won both meets, capturing the men's competition 159-35 and the women's by a 160-45 score.

For the men (0-1 overall), senior Chris Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) posted victories in the 200 individual medley (2:11.29) and the 200 backstroke (2:08.19).

On the women's side, the Blue Jays (0-1 overall) claimed a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle from junior Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) in a time of 26.34 seconds along with first-year student Emily Robinson (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Catholic) in the 500 freestyle (5:44.81)

In addition, the 400 freestyle relay team of senior Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser), junior Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus), Robinson and Riley took second with a time of 3:57.74.
