Back to top 3/29/2008 Ohio Wesleyan claims 10-3 win over Etown ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Ohio Wesleyan Earns 10-3 Win over Elizabethtown ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Chris Eccles scored two goals and added two assists as Ohio Wesleyan scored all of its goals in the second and third quarters en route to a 10-3 victory over Elizabethtown College in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday morning. Steve Fowler also scored a pair of goals for the Battling Bishops (3-4 overall), who tallied six times in the second quarter following a scoreless opening period to earn the win over the Blue Jays (2-6 overall). Sophomore Jon Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) scored two goals for the Blue Jays while sophomore Josh Dougherty (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) added one goal on the day. The Bishops scored four times in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 6-1 lead to intermission, and added the final three goals of the third quarter to extend their lead to 10-2 entering the final 15 minutes. Dougherty scored an unassisted goal midway through the second quarter to get the Blue Jays on the scoreboard, and Day added his first goal of the contest with 9:23 left in the third quarter off an assist by junior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone). Day tallied with the man advantage with 10:17 left in the fourth quarter, assisted by sophomore Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township), to close the scoring. Ohio Wesleyan finished with a 32-24 edge in shots, while the Blue Jays won 10 of the game's 17 faceoffs. The Bishops went 1-for-2 with the extra man, while Elizabethtown was 1-for-6. Alex Haggerty led Ohio Wesleyan with five ground balls on the day, while senior Eric Peifer (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) paced the Blue Jays with five ground balls. Bryce Geiman scored three goals while John Murdock and Jeff Ziegler added two goals each for the Falcons (3-3 overall, 1-0 MAC), who won their third straight match following an 0-3 start. First-year student Kurt Deschner (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Secondary) led the Blue Jays (2-5 overall, 0-1 MAC) with three goals while sophomore Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) dished out four assists. Elizabethtown led 3-0 after 11 minutes on goals by sophomore Jon Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan), Deschner and first-year student Greg Kenneally (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield), but the Falcons countered with four consecutive goals, including two by Geiman, to take a 4-3 lead at halftime. The Blue Jays tied the game at 4-4 with 12:58 left in the third quarter on a goal by sophomore Josh Dougherty (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep), but Geiman and Murdock scored 16 seconds apart late in the third quarter to put the Falcons on top 6-4 entering the final period. Murdock tallied 24 seconds into the fourth quarter to give Messiah a 7-4 lead, but Deschner and sophomore Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) scored for Elizabethtown to trim the Falcon lead to 7-6 with 11:42 left. However, Tim Sandusky and Ziegler scored 33 seconds apart to push Messiah on top 9-6 with 9:58 to go, and Deschner and Ziegler traded goals six seconds apart late in the contest to set the final score. Messiah finished with a 34-30 edge in shots and held a 40-38 advantage in ground balls. The Falcons won 17-of-21 faceoffs in the contest, including a 9-for-10 effort from J.J. Miller, who led Messiah with eight ground balls. Back to top 3/20/2008 Moravian nets 13-12 overtime victory over Blue Jays ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE Moravian Comes Away With 13-12 Overtime Win BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Jason Tosches scored five goals, including the game-winner 1:45 into overtime, as Moravian College defeated Elizabethtown College 13-12 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Jon Day (Thornton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) led the Blue Jays (2-4 overall) with four goals while first-year student Kurt Deschner (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Secondary) netted two goals and two assists for Elizabethtown. Robert Devine finished with four goals for the Greyhounds (4-3 overall), including the tying tally with 3:52 left in regulation as Moravian rallied from an 11-8 deficit after squandering an 8-4 first-half lead. Elizabethtown led 2-0 after four minutes of action, but the Greyhounds scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead early in the second period. Moravian led 8-6 at intermission behind three goals from Tosches and two tallies from Devine. The Blue Jays tied the game at 9-9 with 3:41 left in the third quarter on a man-down goal from first-year student Brian Schaaf (West Chester, PA/West Chester East), and went ahead 10-9 with 7:41 remaining in the fourth quarter on a goal from junior Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, FL/Boone). After Deschner gave the Blue Jays an 11-9 lead with 6:36 to go, Tosches and Devine scored twice in a span of 30 seconds to knot the game at 11-11 with 5:52 remaining. Day answered with his fourth goal of the afternoon just seven seconds after Devine's tally to restore Elizabethtown's lead at 12-11, but Devine forced overtime on a goal with 3:52 left. McCafferty finished with two goals for the Blue Jays, while adding single goals were sophomores Josh Dougherty (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Academy) and Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) along with junior Jeff Long (West Chester, PA/Henderson). Mike Maggio scored a pair of first-half goals for the Lasers (4-0 overall), who allowed just three shots to the Blue Jays (2-3 overall) in a scoreless fourth quarter. Sophomores Josh Dougherty (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Academy) and Aaron Weber (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) scored for the Blue Jays, while sophomore Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) assisted on both tallies. Weber gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead just 2:54 into the contest with his seventh goal of the season, but Maggio countered midway through the first quarter and in the final two minutes of the second quarter to give the Lasers a 2-1 lead at halftime. Dougherty tallied his seventh goal of the year with 3:14 left in the third quarter to knot the score at 2-2, but Keith netted his eighth of the year with 49 seconds left in the third quarter to give Lasell a 3-2 lead. Lasell finished with a 22-19 edge in shots over Elizabethtown, and won 6-of-9 faceoffs. The Lasers went 0-for-2 with the man advantage while the Blue Jays converted their only attempt. McCafferty scored seven goals and dished out four assists in leading the Blue Jays to victories over Susquehanna University (14-4) and Immaculata University (14-8) last week. Against Susquehanna, McCafferty dished out a game-high four assists while against Immaculata he scored a career-high seven goals, equaling the second-best single-game total in program history. Sophomore Keith Staulters (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and first-year student Greg Kenneally (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each added a goal and two assists for the Blue Jays (2-1 overall), who scored seven straight goals over a span of 18 minutes in the second half to earn the win over the Mighty Macs (0-2 overall). The seven goals by McCafferty are tied for the second-best single-game performance in program history, behind the nine-goal effort of Sean Thomson against Misericordia University on March 13, 2002. Elizabethtown jumped to an early 4-1 lead behind three goals from McCafferty, but Immaculata closed the first quarter with three goals in the final two minutes to knot the game at 4-4. Staulters and McCafferty notched the lone goals of the second quarter to give the Blue Jays a 6-4 lead at halftime. After the Mighty Macs pulled within 6-5 in the first 90 seconds of the third quarter, Elizabethtown ran off seven straight goals, including three from McCafferty, to move ahead 13-5 with 8:05 remaining. Dan Maude added four goals for the Big Red (2-0 overall) while Rick Mackessy dished out five assists, as Denison scored 12 straight goals from the end of the first quarter to late in the third quarter to claim the win over the Blue Jays (0-1 overall).
