Back to top 3/29/2008 Elizabethtown opens outdoor season at Susquehanna Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Blue Jays Open Outdoor Track Season at Susquehanna SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's track and field team kicked off its 2008 outdoor schedule by competing in the non-scoring Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University on Saturday. First-year student Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) won the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:48.56, while sophomore A.J. Farris (Edgewood, MD/Joppatowne) won the 200 meters in 22.44 seconds, the fifth-best time in program history, and was second in the 100 meters in 11.25 seconds. Senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) finished second in the 800 meters at 1:54.27, and sophomore Myles Lund (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) took second in the 5,000 meters with a personal-record time of 15:41.82. Sophomore Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) finished third in the 100 meters at 11.61 seconds and was fourth in the 200 meters (23.46 seconds), and junior Jason Mastroianni (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) finished fourth in the 400 meters at 54.59 seconds. Junior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) placed second in the 1500 meters (4:07.68) while junior James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) was fourth in a time of 4:11.28. In addition to Heisey's win in the 10,000 meters, junior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) was third in 32:54.44, first-year student Rich Greco (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) finished fourth in 34:01.15 and first-year student Adam Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) was eighth in 35:15.46. All four Blue Jay runners set personal records in the 10,000, as Heisey split 16:41 and 16:07, Matula posted splits of 16:41 and 16:13, Greco was timed in 17:05 and 16:56 and Derkacz ran 5,000-meter splits of 18:00 and 17:15. In relays, the 4x100 team took first in 43.93 seconds and the 4x400 quartet also finished first in a time of 3:25.05. In field events, sophomore Tim Katzaman (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a new school record of 119 feet, 6 inches, while senior Bryan Marison (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) was seventh at 113 feet, 7 inches. Senior Shawn Strauss (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) was fifth in the shot put (36 feet, 2 1/4 inches) and sophomore Mike Torre (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) finished sixth in the javelin throw at 161 feet, 11 inches. Jim Taylor Invitational - Selinsgrove, PA Back to top 3/15/2008 Graybeal earns All-American honors in 400 metes at NCAA indoor championship Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Drew Graybeal Finishes Third in 400 Meters at NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships ADA, Ohio --- Elizabethtown College senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) finished third in the men's 400 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championships at Ohio Northern University on Saturday. Graybeal was timed in 49.56 seconds in the finals, finishing behind champion Hanneus Ollison of McMurry University, who won the race in 48.61 seconds, and runner-up Luke Reschke of Monmouth (Ill.) College, who was clocked in 49.51 seconds. It is the fourth time in his career that Graybeal has earned All-America honors, and his best individual finish ever after taking fifth indoors and sixth outdoors in the 800 meters at last year's NCAA Division III championships. Graybeal joins fellow senior Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) as an All-American this year after Clark finished fourth in the pole vault on Friday night. As a team, the Blue Jays finished with 11 points to tie for 14th out of 66 schools that earned at least one point at the championships. Also on Saturday, senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) competed in the women's 5,000-meter run and finished 10th with a time of 17:42.11. Back to top 3/14/2008 Clark finishes 4th in pole vault, Graybeal advances to 400 finals Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Kevin Clark Finishes Fourth in Pole Vault, Drew Graybeal Advances to 400 Finals at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships ADA, Ohio --- Elizabethtown College senior Kevin Clark earned All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the men's pole vault, while senior Drew Graybeal advanced to the finals of the men's 400 meters on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Northern University on Friday. Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), the defending Division III indoor champion in the pole vault, finished fourth with a best vault of 16 feet, 5 1/2 inches (5.02 meters) to earn All-America honors at the indoor championships for the third consecutive year. Clark, who was the national runner-up at the NCAA Division III outdoor championships in 2006, becomes the 24th Elizabethtown athlete to be recognized as an All-American in track and field, and increases to 30 the number of All-America performances in both track and field and cross country in program history. Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) advanced to the finals of the 400 meters by finishing second in his heat and sixth overall with a time of 49.58 seconds. The finals will be held on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. By advancing to the finals, Graybeal is guaranteed to be recognized as an All-American for the fourth time in his career, as he was honored in both the indoor and outdoor 800 meters in 2007 along with the indoor distance medley relay in 2006. As a team, the Blue Jays are tied for 14th place in the standings after four of 14 events with five points. Also on Saturday, senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) will compete in the women's 5,000-meter run at 4:35 p.m. Back to top 3/12/2008 Clark and Graybeal to compete at NCAA Division III indoor championships FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College to Send Three Athletes to NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College will have three senior athletes in action at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Northern University this weekend. Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) will look to defend his championship in the men's pole vault on Friday, Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) will compete in the men's 400 meters on Friday and Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) will be in action in the women's 5,000 meters on Saturday. Clark became the first Blue Jay national champion in track and field last season with a winning vault of 17 feet, 1 1/2 inches. He is ranked sixth among the 13 entrants with a season-best mark of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches which he set at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Feb. 9. He is a three-time All-America honoree in the pole vault, including each of the last two years at the indoor championships and at the 2006 outdoor championships, where he finished second. Graybeal is seeded 12th in the 400 meters with a qualifying time of 49.44 seconds set at the Middle Atlantic Conference championships on March 1. He becomes the first Blue Jay to participate in the NCAA championships all four years of his career, and will look to break his own school record of 49.34 seconds set in 2006. He is also a three-time All-America honoree, having earned the honors in the 800 meters at both the 2007 indoor and outdoor championships along with the distance medley relay at the 2006 indoor championships. Fisher is seeded in ninth place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:25.68 set at the Susquehanna Open on Feb. 16. She previously competed at the NCAA championships in the 10,000-meter run at the 2007 outdoor meet. She earned All-America honors in cross country with a 15th-place finish at the 2007 championships, after winning the NCAA Mideast Regional championships. Fisher also won her second consecutive MAC cross country title in 2007. The men's pole vault will be Friday at 5:00 p.m, while the men's 400 meters will hold trials on Friday at 6:05 p.m. and finals on Saturday at 3:15 p.m., with the fastest eight times advancing to finals. The women's 5,000 meters will be held on Saturday at 4:35 p.m. The top eight finishers in each event will earn All-America status, a distinction awarded 29 times to Elizabethtown College cross country and track and field athletes since 2001. The Blue Jays have had representation at the NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor track and field championships each year since 2003. Back to top 3/8/2008 Elizabethtown competes at Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Elizabethtown Competes at Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet BLACKSBURG, Va. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College men's indoor track and field team competed at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet on Saturday afternoon. Senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) turned in the strongest performance of the day for the Blue Jays as he finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.08, a personal indoor record and the second-best indoor time in program history. Graybeal, who had already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III championships in the event, vaulted into the top 10 on the national performance list with his time in the race. Senior Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) took seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:00.56, with senior Ryan St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) coming in 10th with a time of 16:20.48. In addition, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Kyle Grimm (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove), junior James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East), Graybeal and junior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) clocked the fourth-best time in program history with a time of 3:23.84 en route to a fourth-place finish. Farris (Edgewood, MD/Joppatowne) was clocked with a season-best time in the 200 meters at 22.89 seconds, as were Grimm at 23.31 seconds and sophomore Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) at 23.51 seconds. Back to top 3/1/2008 Blue Jays share MAC team title, Graybeal named Track Athlete of the Year Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Elizabethtown Shares MAC Indoor Track and Field Title With Messiah, Winning Sixth Straight Crown SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's indoor track and field team won its sixth straight Middle Atlantic Conference championship on Saturday afternoon, sharing the title with Messiah College as both schools finished with 135 points. The Blue Jays trailed the Falcons by two points heading into the 4x400-meter relay, the final event of the day, but senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) ran down Messiah's anchor runner with 300 meters to go to give Elizabethtown the race win in 3:26.44, with the Falcons in second at 3:26.80, to force the deadlock. Graybeal was named MAC Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 400 meters with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 49.44 seconds, and winning the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.15. Head coach Chris Straub also took home honors as he was recognized by his peers as MAC Coach of the Year for leading the Blue Jays to a share of the team championship. Sophomore A.J. Farris (Edgewood, MD/Joppatowne) picked up a win in the 55 meters in 6.55 seconds while senior Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.95 seconds. Both times were the second-best in program history. Running in the winning 4x400-meter relay team were sophomore Kyle Grimm (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove), junior Jason Mastroianni (Macungie, PA/Emmaus), Clark and Graybeal. The distance medley relay group of senior Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), junior James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East), junior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) and senior Ryan St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) picked up a victory with a time of 10:55.36. Farris added a second-place finish in the 200 meters in 23.05 seconds, the fourth-best time in school history, while Clark took third in 23.09 seconds for the fifth-best time in program history. Clark also finished second in the 55 meters in 6.63 seconds, the fourth-best time in program history, and was fourth in the long jump at 21 feet, 2 3/4 inches. In the mile, Rulander finished second in 1:57.35 for the fourth-best time in school history, followed by Munnelly in sixth place at 1:58.84 for the sixth-best time in program history. The Blue Jays scored three runners in the 5000 meters, as first-year student Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) was second in 15:56.34, Bresnahan finished in third at 16:01.00 and junior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) was fifth at 16:20.50. Sophomore Elton Dos Santos (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Charter) placed fourth in the 55 hurdles at 8.60 seconds, and Grimm finished fourth in the 400 meters at 52.03 seconds to claim sixth place on the school's all-time list. In other relays, the 4x200 team of sophomore Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School), Farris, Grimm and Clark finished second in 1:33.11 for the fifth-best time in program history, while the 4x800-meter relay team of Rulander, Munnelly, junior Phil Alder (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) and St. Clair was second in 8:11.49 to place seventh on the all-time program list.
