Dr. Mimi Staulters travels to Jamaica to complete research study

Dr. Mimi L. Staulters, Elizabethtown College, and Dr. Stacy Williams, University at Albany, traveled to the inner region of Jamaica during the week of March 1- 8, 2008 to complete their research on rural Jamaican educators’ practices for teaching literacy and mathematics. Drs Staulters and Williams culminated a project which focused on providing professional development and materials for research evidenced instructional and assessment practices to Jamaican educators who are facing tremendous challenges to teach the academically diverse population of students who are now attending their schools. The primary purpose of this trip was to re-survey educators and to conduct observations and interviews to determine if changes in instruction and assessment practices resulted from the professional development provided during the summer of 2007. Drs Staulters and Williams were very excited to observe teachers and students utilizing so many of the instructional techniques and materials they had presented to the schools.
