Back to top 4/27/2008 Blue Jays win first-ever Commonwealth Conference championship ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE GOLF Elizabethtown College Wins First-Ever Conference Golf Championships, Qualifies for NCAA Tournament Click here for Commonwealth results HERSHEY, Pa. --- For the first time in program history, the Elizabethtown College golf team won a conference team championship as the Blue Jays captured the Commonwealth Conference title at the Hershey Country Club East Course on Sunday. The Blue Jays, who finished last at the Commonwealth Conference championship last season, shot 317 on Sunday after carding 316 on Saturday. Their two-day total of 633 was 18 strokes better than runner-up Albright College (651). With their win, the Blue Jays earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia, to be held May 13-16. Individually, the Blue Jays placed four golfers among the top six finishers. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) took second with a two-day total of 156, while senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) was third with an identical score of 156. First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) earned Rookie of the Year honors after finishing fourth with a total of 159, and sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) placed sixth with a score of 162. First-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) tied for 19th overall in the field of 30 players with a two-day total of 177. Albright's Mike Heller was the individual champion with a two-day score of 153 off rounds of 74 and 79, defeating Wagner and Gross by three strokes. Heller was named Player of the Year while Blue Jay head coach Keith Marks was honored by his peers as Coach of the Year. Commonwealth Conference Championship Team Scores: 1. Elizabethtown 633; 2. Back to top 4/26/2008 Elizabethtown leads after day one of Commonwealth Championship ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE GOLF Blue Jays Lead By Four Shots After Day One of Commonwealth Conference Golf Championships HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's golf team holds the lead after day one of the Commonwealth Conference Golf Championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course, shooting 316 as a team on Saturday to lead Messiah College by four shots. Individually, senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) led the Blue Jays with a round of 75 on Saturday, placing him in second place in the individual standings behind Albright College's Mike Heller, who fired a three-over-par 74. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) is tied for third place at 76 with Ben Horst of Messiah, and first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) is in sixth place after shooting an 80. Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) carded an 85 and is in 15th place after day one, and first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) rounded out the Blue Jay scoring with an 88 to stand in a tie for 20th. The Blue Jays, who finished last at the conference meet one year ago, lead Messiah by four shots, with Albright (326) 10 strokes back. Back to top 4/24/2008 Blue Jays gear up for Commonwealth Cnoference championship FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Golf Team In Action at Commonwealth Championships ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team is set to compete at the Commonwealth Conference championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course this weekend. Six schools will vie for the team title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships during the 36-hole event, which begins Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and concludes on Sunday. After finishing seventh at last year's championships, the Blue Jays are poised to make a run from bottom to top at this year's meet. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) is the Blue Jays' number-one player after a strong spring season in which he averaged 78.5 strokes per round and had three top-10 finishes. First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) is one of two rookies in the lineup for the Blue Jays, and averaged 80.7 over nine rounds this season. He had four top-10 finishes and tied for first in a tri-match with Lebanon Valley and Messiah on Oct. 10. Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) is third in the lineup, and averaged 83.0 in 10 rounds during the season. He had four top-10 finishes and shot a season-best 77 on the Hershey East course on April 10. Also making his conference tourney debut is first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School). He competed in six rounds during the season, averaging 80.2 strokes per round, and had three top-10 finishes including a win in the 34-player Messiah Invitational on Tuesday with a round of 78. Rounding out the Blue Jay lineup is senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), who played 11 rounds during the season and averaged 82.5. He had three top-10 finishes in the fall and has broken 80 in two of his last three rounds. Back to top 4/22/2008 Dan Senkler medals at Messiah Invitational ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE GOLF Dan Senkler Takes Medalist Honors as Blue Jays Compete at Messiah Invitational HARRISBURG, Pa. --- First-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) shot a 78 to win the Messiah College Invitational at Blue Ridge Country Club on Tuesday afternoon. Senkler won by one stroke over Lebanon Valley College's Steve Garby, with first-year student Justin Lizik (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) tying for third with an 80. Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) finished in a tie for sixth with a score of 81, and sophomore John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) was in a tie for eighth at 82. First-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) also finished in the top 20 for Elizabethtown as he tied for 11th with a score of 83. Messiah won the team event with a score of 332, followed by Albright College (333), Lebanon Valley (334) and the Elizabethtown B team (336). Alvernia College (350) and the Elizabethtown A squad (352) rounded out the field. Messiah College Invitational Elizabethtown Results: Back to top 4/21/2008 Elizabethtown takes eigth at Glenmaura National COllegiate Invitational ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE GOLF Elizabethtown Finishes Eighth at Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational MOOSIC, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College golf team finished eighth out of 12 schools at the two-day Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Scranton at Glenmaura National Golf Club. The Blue Jays shot 334 in Sunday's first round and followed up with a team score of 318 for a two-day total of 652. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished in a tie for 16th with a score of 158, off rounds of 81 and 77. Senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) tied for 24th place at 161 after shooting 83 and 78, and first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished tied for 38th with a 166 following rounds of 87 and 79. Junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) tied for 49th place with a score of 173, after shooting 83 and 90, and sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) shot 92 and 84 to finish 53rd with a 176. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) shot a 75 to finish in seventh place and lead the Blue Jays, with senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) and first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) tying for 24th place at 79. first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) and John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) each shot 81 and tied for 33rd place, and junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) carded an 84 and finished tied for 49th. Wesley College shot 292 to win the team title, and the Wolverines' Chris Osberg fired a five-under-par 66 to win the individual title by four shots over teammate Michael Rustin. Five of the six Commonwealth Conference schools participated in the tournament, and the Blue Jays finished first among those teams by eight shots over Albright College. First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) was the Blue Jays' top finisher with a season-best round of 76, followed by sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) at 77 and junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) with an 80. The Blue Jay "B" squad shot 335 and finished in 12th place, with first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) leading the team with a round of 78. Susquehanna University shot 290 to win the team title, and Crusader senior Pat Serfass took medalist honors with a one-under-par round of 70. The Blue Jays shot 327 as a team, finishing behind the host Lions (314) and ahead of Philadelphia Biblical University (337) and Penn State Mont Alto (345). First-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) was the top player for the Blue Jays with a score of 79, followed by junior Maurice Rapp (Bangor, PA/Bangor) at 79 and first-year student Stephen Powell (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) at 85. Also playing for the Blue Jays were sophomores Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) at 86, along with junior Eric Salansky (Union Dale, PA/Mountain View) at 89. The Blue Jays carded a 345 as a team, finishing 24 shots behind tournament champion Albright College, which shot 321 as a team to finish two strokes ahead of runner-up Widener University. Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished fourth overall with a round of 77, three shots behind tournament winner Kyle Durham of Widener. first-year student Nick Iacono (Hockessin, DE/Sanford School) finished tied for 27th place with a score of 84, and sophomore John Krajsa (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and first-year student Alex Catalano (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) tied for 64th place as each shot 92.
