Blue Jays advance to MAC finals with 15-9 win over Messiah, to play at FDU-

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson)
scored five goals on five shots as Elizabethtown College defeated
Messiah College 15-9 in the Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse
semifinals at Wolf Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled)
chipped in with three goals for the Blue Jays (11-4 overall), who
earned the first postseason win in program history and advanced to
Saturday's championship match at top-seeded FDU-Florham, which defeated
Lycoming College 15-13 in Wednesday's other semifinal.
The
Blue Jays scored six consecutive goals to take an 8-1 leaad in the
first half, and held off a pair of Falcon rallies to earn their seventh
consecutive victory overall.
Byrnes scored three times in the first half, and tallied twice after Messiah had pulled to within three goals in the second half. Ford scored all three of her goals in the second half after the Blue Jays lost leading scorer Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) when she picked up her second yellow card with 13:43 left in the first half.
Foley scored two goals and added an assist before being ejected, while sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) fired home a pair of goals for Elizabethtown.
Four
different players scored two goals each for the Falcons (10-7 overall),
who were outshot 35-24 by the Blue Jays in the contest.
First-year student Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East) had
a strong defensive game for the Blue Jays with five ground balls, five
caused turnovers and four draw controls. Kirstyn Wheeler led the
Falcons with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) finished with 10 saves in goal for Elizabethtown, while Jen Venter tallied 12 stops for Messiah.

Seven Blue Jays named to All-MAC team

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Seven members of the Elizabethtown College
women's lacrosse team have been named All-Middle Atlantic Conference,
as voted upon by the league's nine head coaches and released Tuesday.
Earning first-team status were junior attack Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross), sophomore midfielder Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School), junior defender Dana Simmons (Flourtown, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and junior goalkeeper Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace).
On the second team were sophomore attack Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson), first-year midfielder Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East) and junior defender Lyndsey Reeve (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township).
They
led the Blue Jays to a 10-4 overall record and second place in the MAC
with a 7-1 league mark. Elizabethtown will host third-seeded Messiah
College in a MAC semifinal on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Wolf Field.
Foley, Simmons and Hawkins were named to the first team for the second straight season, while Kreis was a first-team pick after earning second-team All-MAC honors last year. Byrnes was voted to the second team for the second straight season.
Foley leads
the Blue Jays in scoring with 63 goals and 16 assists for 79 points.
She also led the team with 36 draw controls and was second on the squad
with 18 caused turnovers. In three seasons, she has 172 goals and 55
assists for 227 points in 48 career games.
Kreis is
third on the team in both goals (36) and points (43), and leads the
team with 30 ground balls. She also ranks third in draw controls with
25 and in caused turnovers with 17. In 31 career games over two
seasons, she has 65 goals and 11 assists for 76 points.
Simmons
has 15 caused turnovers, 13 ground balls and 12 draw controls from her
defender position, and has 38 ground balls and two goals in three
seasons, spanning 37 games.
Hawkins has
started all 14 games in goal and leads the MAC with an 8.67 goals
against average and a .567 save percentage. In 48 career games, she has
posted an 9.75 goals against average and made 502 saves.
Byrnes
is second on the team with 42 goals and 17 assists for 59 points, while
also ranking among the team leaders with 25 ground balls and 22 draw
controls. In just two seasons, she has scored 86 goals and 34 assists
for 120 points in 31 games.
Cullinan was
honored despite missing three games with an injury at midseason. She
still finished with a team-high 30 caused turnovers and added 25 ground
balls to go with 11 goals and nine assists.
Reeve
started all 14 games on defense and has posted 13 ground balls, 11
caused turnovers and seven draw controls. She has recorded 56 ground
balls in 48 career games.
Amanda Wayne of FDU-Florham
took Player of the Year honors, while Kara Geiman of Messiah was Rookie
of the Year. FDU-Florham coach Adrienne Booth was honored as Coach of
the Year after leading the Devils to a perfect 8-0 record in conference

Elizabethtown to host Messiah in MAC semifinals on Wednesday

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team
will host Messiah College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Wolf Field in
the Middle Atlantic Conference semifinals. Admission is free for all
spectators.
The winner will advance to Saturday's
championship game against the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal
between top-seeded FDU-Florham and Lycoming College. The MAC champion
receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
The
Blue Jays (10-4 overall, 7-1 MAC) are the second seed in the playoffs
and carry a six-game winning streak into the postseason. Elizabethtown
has not played since defeating Widener University 17-4 in their
regular-season finale on April 22.
In the teams'
regular-season meeting at Elizabethtown on April 17, the Blue Jays
defeated the Falcons 14-7 behind five goals from sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) and four goals by junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross).
Foley leads
the MAC in goals per game at 4.50 (63 goals in 14 games) and is second
in points per game at 5.50 (77 points in 14 games). She has scored at
lest two goals in every game this season, and has netted seven or more
goals on four occasions.
Byrnes has added 42 goals and 17 assists for 59 points, while sophomore Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) is third on the team with 36 goals and seven assists for 43 points.
Foley also leads the Blue Jays with 36 draw controls, while Kreis paces the squad with 30 ground balls and first-year student Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East) has a team-best 30 caused turnovers.
In goal, junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) has started all 14 games and leads the MAC with an 8.67 goals against average and a .567 save percentage.
Messiah
(10-6 overall, 6-2 MAC) is led by Kara Geiman, who has scored 65 goals
and 22 assists for 87 points in 16 games. Jessica VanHook has added 42
goals and six assists, while Brianne Brennan leads the defense with 49
ground balls and 42 caused turnovers. |

CHESTER, Pa. --- Sophomore Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) scored
five goals as Elizabethtown College cruised to a 17-4 victory over host
Widener University in Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse
action on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) added
three goals and two assists for the Blue Jays (10-4 overall, 7-1 MAC),
who clinched the second seed in next week's MAC playoffs and will host
Messiah College on Wednesday afternoon.
Elizabethtown
led 10-2 at halftime and finished with a 49-12 edge in shots over the
Pride (5-9 overall, 3-4 MAC), who were kept off the scoreboard for over
33 minutes from late in the first half until late in the second half.
Junior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled) and sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) each finished with two goals, an assist and five ground balls for the Blue Jays, while junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) scored twice for Elizabethtown.
First-year student Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East) posted a goal and two assists, and led all players with four caused turnovers in the contest for the Blue Jays.
Keri Robinson scored a pair of goals to lead Widener, which committed 32 turnovers and committed 36 fouls in the match.
Junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) played the first 55 minutes in goal for Elizabethtown and made four saves, while Jill Cummings tallied 16 stops for Widener.

Katie Foley and Jenn Hawkins sweep MAC weekly honors

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College junior attack Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the third straight week, while junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) was honored as the MAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 20, the conference office announced Monday.
Foley had
another standout week for the Blue Jays, scoring 12 goals and adding
five assists in wins over Messiah College (14-7) and Manhattanville
College (25-8).
She scored four goals and three assists
in the win over Messiah, and tallied eight goals and two assists to
help the Blue Jays to the highest single-game goal total in program
history against Manhattanville.
Foley leads the MAC with 61 goals, eight shy of her own program record of 69 goals set last season.
Hawkins guided
the Blue Jays to victories over Messiah and Manhattanville, finishing
with nine saves in the win against Messiah and eight stops in 45
minutes in the victory over Manhattanville.
For the
season, she has a 9.22 goals against average to rank second in the MAC,
and leads the conference with a .565 save percentage on the strength of
131 saves.
The Blue Jays (9-4 overall, 6-1 MAC) are
assured a first-round home game in next week's MAC semifinals, and
close the regular season on Tuesday afternoon at Widener University.

Elizabethtown sets program record for goals in 25-8 win at Manhattanville;

PURCHASE,
N.Y. --- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team set a program
record for goals in a game and clinched a first-round home game in the
upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs with a 25-8 win at
Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) scored eight goals to reach the 60-goal plateau for the second straight senior, and junior Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) dished
out four assists to set a new Blue Jay career record for assists with
62, breaking the mark of 59 set by Liz Fretz from 2002 to 2005.
The
Blue Jays (9-4 overall, 6-1 MAC) led 9-4 at halftime and fired home a
staggering 16 goals on 27 shots in the second half to lock up the win
over the Valiants (7-8 overall, 3-4 MAC). The 25 goals broke the
single-game program record of 24 goals set against Hood in 2002 and
matched against Arcadia on April 2.
Sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) added four goals for the Blue Jays, while first-year student Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East) and sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) tallied three goals apiece.
Katie
Bertel and Jen Ascencio led the Valiants with a pair of goals apiece,
but Manhattanville was outshot 51-21 by Elizabethtown in the contest.
Junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) made eight saves for the Blue Jays, while sophomore Becca Watkins (Herndon, VA/Westfield) added three stops. Kirstin Betsill finished with 12 saves for the Valiants.

Blue Jays break 5-5 tie with six straight goals, defeat Messiah 14-7

ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa. --- A 6-0 run early in the second half broke a 5-5 tie and boosted
Elizabethtown College to a 14-7 victory over Messiah College in Middle
Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) netted five goals and added an assist for the Blue Jays (8-4 overall, 5-1 MAC), while junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) added four goals and three assists as Elizabethtown outshot Messiah 43-23 on the afternoon, including 23-8 in the second half.
The
Blue Jays never trailed in the contest, though the Falcons fought back
from several two-goal deficits to force a 5-5 tie on a goal by Jessica
VanHook with 28:07 remaining in the second half. However, sophomore Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) gave the Blue Jays the lead for good with her second goal of the match with 26:43 remaining.
Byrnes added two goals during the 6-0 run, while sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield), Foley and first-year student Meg Cassels (Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) also found the net to help Elizabethtown to an 11-5 lead with 13:01 left.
Cassels finished with two goals and an assist for the Blue Jays, while Kreis netted a pair of goals and junior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled) posted two assists.
Messiah (7-6 overall, 4-2 MAC) was led by Kara Geiman, who scored two goals, while five other players added one goal apiece.
Kreis and junior Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) shared the team lead with four ground balls for the Blue Jays, while three Falcons had three ground balls apiece.

Katie Foley repeats as Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- For the second consecutive week, Elizabethtown College junior attack Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, the MAC office announced Monday.
Foley
continues to dominate all opponents as she scored a total of 13 goals
and added two assists in victories over Lycoming (17-12) and King’s
(20-4).
Against Lycoming, she scored seven goals on
nine shots and registered her 200th career point as the Blue Jays
knocked off the Warriors. In the win over King’s, Foley scored the game’s first four goals and finished with six goals and two assists.
For the season, Foley
leads the team and the MAC with 49 goals, which is tied for the
fourth-most in a season in program history, and has added 11 assists
for 60 points in just 11 matches.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross)
scored a game-high six goals and added two assists to lead
Elizabethtown College to a 20-4 win over King's College in Middle
Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) added three goals and two assists, and junior Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley)
scored three goals and dished out an assist for the Blue Jays (7-4
overall, 4-1 MAC), who won their third straight match by outshooting
the Lady Monarchs (2-8 overall, 1-3 MAC) by a 48-10 margin.
The Blue Jays scored the first four goals of the match - all off the stick of Foley
- and held an 11-1 lead at halftime. Over a span of 43 minutes, 30
seconds spanning the halves, Elizabethtown outscored King's by a 15-0
margin.
Sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) tallied two goals and three assists, sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) finished with two goals, and adding one goal each were junior Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) and first-year students Meg Cassels (Downingtown, PA/Great Valley), Sarah Behounek (Street, MD/North Harford) and Sarah Cullinan (West Chester, PA/East).
First-year student Ashley Mogle (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) dished out three assists for the Blue Jays to tie Byrnes for the team high in the match.
Defensively, junior Dana Simmons (Flourtown, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had a strong effort for the Blue Jays with five ground balls and six caused turnovers. Senior Amanda Reid (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) added three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Four different players scored one goal each for the Lady Monarchs, who committed 33 turnovers as a team.
Junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) made four saves in the first half for the Blue Jays, while sophomore Becca Watkins (Herndon, VA/Westfield) made one second-half stop. Heather Kelly made 17 saves for King's.

Katie Foley named Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College junior attack Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) has
been recognized as the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in
women's lacrosse for the week ending April 6, the MAC office announced
Monday.
Foley scored nine goals and
added six assists as the Blue Jays earned a pair of MAC victories last
week. She scored five goals and dished out three assists in a 24-3 win
over Arcadia University on Wednesday, and added two goals and three
assists in a 21-6 victory at Wilkes University on Saturday.
She
also scored a pair of goals as the Blue Jays fell 9-8 in double
overtime to nationally-ranked Dickinson College on Friday afternoon.
In addition to her 15 points, Foley also
picked up eight ground balls, caused seven turnovers and came up with
12 draw controls during the week. She leads the Blue Jays with 36 goals
and nine assists for 45 points in nine games.
The Blue Jays (5-4 overall, 2-1 MAC) return to action on Thursday at Lycoming College beginning at 4:00 p.m. |

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- Junior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled) scored
a game-high five goals to lift Elizabethtown College to a 21-6 victory
over Wilkes University in Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse
action on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays
(5-4 overall, 2-1 MAC), coming off a tough 9-8 double-overtime loss at
nationally-ranked Dickinson College on Friday afternoon, jumped to a
6-0 lead and led 13-3 at halftime over the Lady Colonels (4-4 overall,
0-2 MAC).
Sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) added four goals and two assists and junior Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) scored three times for the Blue Jays, who received goals from 10 different players in the win.
Junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) posted two goals and three assists, and first-year student Meg Cassels (Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) scored twice for Elizabethtown, while scoring one goal each were juniors Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) and Dana Simmons (Flourtown, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) along with first-year students Ashley Mogle (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley), Sarah Behounek (Street, MD/North Harford) and Kelly Lurz (Baltimore, MD/Towson Catholic).
Mogle also dished out a team-high four assists for the Blue Jays, while Kozak added three helpers and sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) had a pair of assists.
Justine Leggio led Wilkes with three goals, while Ashley Leggio had two goals and four assists for the Lady Colonels.

with three draw controls, while Ashley Leggio led the Lady Colonels
with three ground balls and three draw controls.
Junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) played the first half and sophomore Becca Watkins (Herndon, VA/Westfield) played
the second half in goal for Elizabethtown, with each making three
saves. Stacy Fimmano finished with 13 saves for Wilkes.

#16 Dickinson edges Etown 9-8 in double overtime

CARLISLE,
Pa. --- Kate Sanford scored with 1:47 left in double overtime to give
16th-ranked Dickinson College a 9-8 victory over Elizabethtown College
in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon.
The
goal capped a back-and-forth contest, in which the teams were tied six
times and neither led by more than one goal for the final 54 minutes.
Alysa
Crellin led the Red Devils (7-3 overall) with four goals while Amy
Jennings added two goals and an assist for Dickinson, which trailed 2-0
after just three minutes, 19 seconds.
Sophomore Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) led the Blue Jays (4-4 overall) with four goals while junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) tallied twice for Elizabethtown, which was seeking its second win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Blue Jays took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Kreis and sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield), and went ahead 3-1 on a tally by sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) with 16:51 left int he first half.
Dickinson rallied to take a 4-3 lead with 26:03 left in the second half, but goals from Kreis and Foley put
the Blue Jays on top 5-4 with 14:58 to go. The teams alternated goals
for the rest of the half, with Crellin scoring her fourth of the game
with 2:47 remaining to force overtime.
Both
teams scored in the first six-minute overtime period, as a goal from
Dickinson's Amy Jennings with 3:17 left was answered by Foley with 1:06 remaining to send the contest to sudden death.
The
Blue Jays had two shots on goal in the sudden-death period but could
not score, and Sanford netted the winner with 4:13 elapsed to give the
Red Devils the victory.
Kreis led the Blue Jays with five ground balls, while junior Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City)
picked up three ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Blue
Jays. Lexie Kob came up with four ground balls for the Red Devils, and
Abby Larson caused four turnovers and shared the team lead with Crellin
with four draw controls.
Both teams finished with 38 shots, with Elizabethtown junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) making 15 saves and Jessie Clark tallying 16 stops for Dickinson.

ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team tied the
single-game program record for goals scored in a 24-3 victory over
Arcadia University in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday
afternoon.
Junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) scored five goals and dished out three assists, junior Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/Homeschooled) added four goals and three assists and sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson)
tallied three goals and four assists for the Blue Jays (4-3 overall,
1-1 MAC), who tied the program record of 24 goals set against Hood
College in 2002.
The Blue Jays jumped to
a 4-0 lead just 3:09 into the first half, and scored the final 10 goals
of the half to take a 17-2 lead to intermission. Elizabethtown
outscored Arcadia 7-1 in the second half and finished with 40-10 margin
in shots.
Junior Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) tallied three goals and an assist for Elizabethtown, junior Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) notched two goals and an assist, first-year student Meg Cassels (Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) fired home three goals and first-year student Ashley Mogle (Leola, PA/Conestoga Valley) scored twice for the Blue Jays.
Sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) added a goal and an assist, and first-year student Sarah Behounek (Street, MD/North Harford) tallied a second-half goal for the Blue Jays.

balls.
