SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. --- In its final meet before next week's Middle
Atlantic Conference championships, the Elizabethtown College women's
track and field team participated in the Paul Kaiser Classic at
Shippensburg University on Saturday.
Junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) won
the 1500 meters with a time of 4:41.36, edging out Shippensburg
standout Abby Huber by less than one second in a field of 67 runners
from Division I, II and III schools.
Junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest)
tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 1 inch and took
seventh in the long jump (16 feet, 6 inches), and senior Samantha Adams (Mickleton, NJ/Padua Academy, DE) was fourth in the pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches).

PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College women's track and field
team participated on the opening day of the 114th Penn Relay Carnival
at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field on Thursday.
Senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) competed
in the College Women's 10,000-meter run and finished 10th out of 27
runners with a time of 36:03.08, breaking her personal record by 40
seconds and improving upon her NCAA Division III provisional qualifying
mark.
"Erin ran a flawless race and executed the race
strategy to perfection. Considering that she resumed regular training
on April 5, we couldn't be happier with the outcome of this race," said
head coach Chris Straub.
Fisher ran
all of her mile splits in less than 5:50, with the sixth and final full
mile her fastest at 5:43. Her 5k times were 18:06 and 17:56, and her
overall time is within 17 seconds of the school record of 35:46.62 set
in 2005 by All-American Melissa St. Clair.
Earlier in the day, the 4x400-meter relay team of graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE) (61.3 seconds), junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) (62.4 seconds), senior Meghan Ryder (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) (64.9 seconds) and junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) (62.3 seconds) competed in the annual Centennial/MAC Relay and took fifth with a season-best time of 4:11.29. |

ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa. --- Elizabethtown College will send 10 members of its men's and
women's track and field teams to the 114th Penn Relay Carnival, to be
held Thursday through Saturday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The
Blue Jays will have entries in five of the 317 events to be held at the
Penn Relays, which has been held annually since 1895 and draws 22,000
athletes from 60 countries as well as over 100,000 fans to the
three-day competition.
On Thursday, the women's 4x400 meter relay team of graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE), junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest), senior Meghan Ryder (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) will compete in the Centennial/MAC relay at 6:35 p.m., and senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) will run in the College Women's 10,000 meters at 10:00 p.m.
Last year, Fisher finished
15th in a field of 20 mostly Division I runners with an NCAA Division
III provisional qualifying time of 36:43.41, while the 4x400 relay team
will look to return to the form that earned it three straight race wins
from 2004 to 2006, including a race and school record time of 3:57.64
in 2006.
On Friday, the men's 4x400 meter relay quartet of senior Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore A.J. Farris (Edgewood, MD/Joppatowne), senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) and junior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) will participate in the annual Pop Haddleton MAC relay at 5:25 p.m.
Later, at 6:40 p.m., the Blue Jay team of Farris, sophomore Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School), Graybeal and Rulander will take part in the College Men's sprint medley relay.
In last year's Pop Haddleton MAC 4x400 relay, the Blue Jays won the 12-team race with a season-best time of 3:18.89, as both Clark and Graybeal competed
in the race. The sprint medley relay team won their heat and took 20th
overall with a program-record time of 3:27.27, with Mauger and Graybeal in action.
On Saturday, Clark will
participate in the College Men pole vault championship at 2:00 p.m. He
is a four-time All-American in the pole vault, and won the 2007 NCAA
Division III indoor championship in the event. Clark's career outdoor best in the event is 16 feet, 6 inches set in 2006.
Also competing at the Penn Relays will be 2004 Elizabethtown College graduate Dave Berdan,
who is entered in the Olympic Development 10,000 meters on Thursday
night at 10:45 p.m. He will be trying to qualify for the U.S. Olympic
Trials in the event where the provisional standard is 29:10.
Berdan was
the NCAA Division III runner-up in the event in 2004 and holds the
school record of 30:14.54 set at the Penn Relays in 2004. |

CHESTER, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's track and field team
participated at the Widener Invitational on Saturday, at the site of
the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference championships.
Graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE) finished seventh in the 400 meters (1:01.22) and first-year student Kristin Bowen (West Chester, PA/Downingtown West) was 11th in the 1500 meters (5:01.17).
In field events, senior Jenna Riley (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) took third in the triple jump (35 feet, 1/2 inch) and was seventh in the long jump (15 feet, 1/2 inch).
Senior Samantha Adams (Mickleton, NJ/Padua Academy, DE) placed fifth in the pole vault (9 feet, 6 1/4 inches) with first-year student Lauren Riley (Sanatoga, PA/Pottsgrove) in eighth place at the same height.
Junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) finished sixth in the triple jump (33 feet, 1 3/4 inches) and tied for seventh in the high jump (4 feet, 9 3/4 inches),
First-year student Sarah DeGeorge (Butler, PA/Butler) was 10th in the hammer throw (69 feet, 9 inches) and 12th in the discus (97 feet, 3 inches). |

4/18/2008 Erin Fisher posts NCAA provisional qualifying mark in 5000 meters

PRINCETON, N.J. --- Elizabethtown College seniors Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) and Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) and junior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower)
all earned NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times at the Larry
Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University on Friday night.
In the men's 800 meters, Rulander finished 12th overall in 1:52.70 while Graybeal crossed the line 13th in 1:52.76, as each surpassed the provisional qualifying standard of 1:53.20.
Fisher took 13th in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 17:28.82, faster than the qualifying standard of 17:35.00. |

ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa. --- Elizabethtown College hosted Messiah College, DeSales
University and Dickinson College in its annual Pentangular track and
field meet, and the Blue Jays won the team title with 81 points, ahead
of Dickinson (47), DeSales (36) and Messiah (16).
The Blue Jays posted nine individual wins at the meet, with first-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) winning the 100 meters (13.95 seconds) and 100 hurdles (16.64 seconds), first-year student Kristin Bowen (West Chester, PA/Downingtown West) victorious in the 800 meters (2:28.79), junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) setting a meet record in the 1500 meters (4:44.34), and sophomore Rebekah Arbogast (York, PA/Eastern York) posting a win in the 400 hurdles (1:12.47).
In field events, junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) won the long jump (16 feet, 6 inches) and triple jump (34 feet, 4 1/4 inches), while first-year student Lauren Riley (Sanatoga, PA/Pottsgrove) won the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches) and first-year student Sarah DeGeorge (Butler, PA/Butler) posted a victory in the javelin (83 feet, 6 inches).
Taking second place for the Blue Jays in running events were senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) in the 1500 meters (5:06.12), senior Sarah Grove (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) in the 3000 meters (10:50.66) and Arbogast in the 100 hurdles (17.44 seconds).

GRANTHAM, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's track and field
team finished fifth out of 17 teams at the Messiah College Invitational
this weekend, scoring 48 points.
First-year student Allie Gold (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.99 seconds, and first-year student Alex Walmer (Hershey, PA/Hershey) placed seventh in the steeplechase in 13:54.91.
In field events, junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) was
fourth in the triple jump (35 feet, 9 1/4 inches), fifth in the high
jump (4 feet, 9 inches) and eighth in the long jump (14 feet).
First-year student Gabrielle Whitley (Lititz, PA/Warwick) tied with Miles for fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches), and senior Jenna Riley (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) was sixth in the triple jump (34 feet, 8 inches).
In the discus, first-year student Sarah DeGeorge (Butler, PA/Butler) placed seventh in the discus with the fourth-best mark in program history (97 feet, 11 inches).
Messiah
won the team title with 222 points, followed by Gettysburg College
(158), Catholic University (59), Bridgewater College (58) and
Elizabethtown (49).

4/9/2008 Sarah Grove named MASCAC Scholar-Athlete in women's indoor track and field

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College seniors Sarah Grove (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) and Dan McGuigan (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville)
have been recognized by the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic
Corporation (MASCAC) as Scholar-Athletes for the 2007-08 winter sports
season, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Grove was honored in women's indoor track and field while McGuigan was
selected in men's swimming. They are the third and fourth Blue Jay
student-athletes to receive the MASCAC Scholar-Athlete award this
academic year, joining Kelly Downs (women's volleyball) and Erin Fisher (women's cross country).
Grove
helped the Blue Jays to a second-place finish at the MAC indoor track
and field championships, finishing fourth in the 5,000 meters with a
time of 19:11.57 that is the eighth-best in program history.
During
the fall season, she was part of the women's cross country team that
won the MAC championship and finished 23rd at the NCAA Division III
championships.
Beyond track and field, Grove is
in the Elizabethtown College Honors Program and is a Presidential
Scholarship recipient. She has served as a peer mentor, and is a member
of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Academic Integrity
Committee.
She has also worked as a tutor and volunteered
at the Clare House women's shelter in Lancaster and at the Shalom House
homeless shelter in Harrisburg.
Academically, Grove has
a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average as a religious studies major at
Elizabethtown, and will attend Vanderbilt University's Divinity School
in the fall in pursuit of a Master of Divinity degree.
McGuigan finished
second in the 200 breaststroke and third as part of the 400 medley
relay as the Blue Jays finished fifth at the MAC swimming championships
in February. He also earned two fourth-place relay finishes and was
sixth in the 100 breaststroke at the championships.
During the regular season, McGuigan claimed
18 individual top-three finishes during dual meets and swam in 12 relay
that finished either first or second. In his career, he earned two
medals at the MAC championships and was recognized as second-team
All-Conference 11 times (four individual, seven relays).
Outside swimming, he has done field work and student teaching in classrooms ranging from preschool to middle school. McGuigan is also a member of the Best Buddies program and is a swim coach and lifeguard at the Phoenixville Area YMCA.
Academically, McGuigan has a 3.77 cumulative grade-point average as an elementary/special education major at Elizabethtown.
The
MASCAC recognizes Scholar-Athletes in each of the six winter sports
sponsored by the conference, with the conference Awards Committee
giving equal consideration to academic record and athletic prowess.

DURHAM, N.C. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College women's track and
field team competed at the two-day Duke University Invitational on
Friday and Saturday.
Junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) finished
fourth out of 77 competitors in the developmental 800 meters with a
time of 2:20.31, the third-best mark in program history. She also ran
in the 1500 meters as one of just three non-Division I entries and took
26th with a time of 4:43.35.
The Blue Jays had a trio of runners in the 10,000 meters, with senior Sarah Grove (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) taking 11th in 39:22.01, junior Amanda Daws (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) in 16th at 40:11.42 and first-year student Kristen O'Brien (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) taking 18th place in 40:30.36.
The time from Grove was the 5th best in program history, while Daws moved to seventh on the Etown all-time list and O'Brien entered at ninth place on the list.
First-year student Kristin Bowen (West Chester, PA/Downingtown West) ran in the developmental 1500 meters and took 27th place with a time of 5:00.13.
