The match had been halted on Tuesday afternoon with 24:52 remaining due to lightning, and the Dutchmen (8-1 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) needed just over eight minutes to break a scoreless tie as Alex Wolfe tipped home a penalty corner started by Lobach with 16:50 remaining. Lobach added an insurance goal off another penalty corner with 4:35 left for the Dutchmen, who finished with a 12-8 edge in shots over the Blue Jays (8-2 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) while both teams took seven penalty corners. The Blue Jays (6-1 overall) entered last week ranked 13th in the poll, but suffered their first loss of the season to King's College on Saturday by a 2-1 score. In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Lady Monarchs (8-0 overall) bounced back from a a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Blue Jays (6-1 overall). Elizabethtown had taken a 1-0 lead with 10:09 left in the first half as junior Katy Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) scored her first goal of the season. King's tied the game with 2:48 left in the half as Wychock set up Candice Russ for the equalizer. Wychock, who became the Lady Monarchs' career leader in goals with 62 in their most-recent contest on Thursday, scored her 22nd goal of the season in just eight games off a feed from Danielle Terracciano to put King's on top for good. Noon put the Blue Jays on the scoreboard just 2:41 into the contest as she knocked home a rebound, and Angstadt extended the Elizabethtown lead to 2-0 at 22:51 with her third goal of the season. In the second half, Noon scored her second of the day and fifth of the season with 16:59 remaining to push the Blue Jays ahead 3-0, and DeMatteis capped the scoring with her fifth of the year with 7:31 left. Junior Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) gave Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead just 2:47 into the contest with her fourth goal of the season off a feed by Angstadt, and the Blue Jays carried the lead into intermission despite firing eight shots at the Eagle cage. In the second half, senior Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored her fourth of the year with an assist to junior Katy Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) as the Blue Jays went ahead 2-0 with 30:18 to go. Angstadt followed just under four minutes later with her second of the year off a pass from senior Alison Duval (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) to push Etown ahead 3-0, and junior Martina White (Philadelphia, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) capped the scoring with 21:07 to go with her first of the year on an assist from senior Tiffany Vogel (Annville, PA/Palmyra) . The Blue Jays have appeared in the national rankings in each of the last four seasons, and are off to a 3-0 start for the second time in the last three years. Bowdoin College holds the top spot in this week's survey, followed by the College of New Jersey, Salisbury University, Messiah College and Lebanon Valley College. Elizabethtown will host Juniata College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. on Wolf Field. Back to top 9/8/2008 York match suspended in second half with Etown ahead 4-0 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Elizabethtown 4, York 0 (suspended) ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Heavy rain and lightning forced the suspension of the non-conference field hockey match between York College and Elizabethtown College with 14:52 remaining in the second half, with the Blue Jays holding a 4-0 lead. The contest was delayed 55 minutes by lightning at halftime, and again for 55 minutes in the second half before the teams agreed to suspend action. The game will be completed at a date to be determined. Elizabethtown scored three times in the first half and once more in the second half to build their 4-0 lead, including a pair of goals from sophomore Liz DeMatteis (Newark, DE/St. Mark's). Noon and Miles each scored in the first six minutes to give Elizabethtown a 2-0 lead, and Foster tallied on a penalty stroke with 11:06 gone to push the Blue Jays ahead 3-0. Miles and Noon each recorded their second goals of the afternoon later in the half as the Blue Jays took a 5-0 lead to halftime, on the strength of a 16-1 shot advantage. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead just 5:05 into the first half on a goal by Camilla Hansen, but DeMatteis scored at 7:26 and 15:12 to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 edge. Sophomore Ali Cavanaugh (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) extended the Etown lead to 3-1 at 25:53 with an assist to Foster, but Misericordia pulled within 3-2 with 7:05 left in the first half on a goal by Haley Ellis. The Blue Jays, who annually play one of the toughest schedules in Division III, went to overtime seven times during the 2007 season, including a pair of losses to eventual conference champion Messiah College. Nearly all of the Blue Jays' offense returns for sixth-year head coach Sharon Sweger, as returning players accounted for 48 of the team's 53 goals last season. Leading the Blue Jay attack is senior forward Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley), who paced the team with 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points last season. She is joined up front by fellow senior Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep), who tallied eight goals and five assists, and juniorBrenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing), who added nine goals and two assists. Both Angstadt and Noon were second-team All-Conference choices last season. Sophomore Liz DeMatteis (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) came off the Etown bench to add six goals and an assist in 18 games, while junior Katy Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) fired home four goals to go with a pair of assists. Back to top 9/4/2008 Field Hockey Tied for Second in Commonwealth Poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Field Hockey Tied for Second in Commonwealth Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College is tied for second in the 2008 Commonwealth Conference field hockey preseason coaches poll, as voted upon by the league's six head coaches and released Tuesday. The Blue Jays finished 11-8 overall and in third place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 2-2 record last season, and sixth-year head coach Sharon Sweger welcomes back nine starters and 12 letterwinners. Among the top returnees are first-team All-Commonwealth Conference defender Caitlin Smith along with second-team forwards Megan Angstadt, who posted team highs of 11 goals and 10 assists for 32 points, and Brenna Noon who added nine goals last season. Junior goalkeeper Liz Hannegan also returns after posting an 8-3 record with four shutouts and a 1.21 goals against average in 11 games. Earning the top spot in the poll was Lebanon Valley College, as the Dutchmen earned three first-place votes and 29 total points. The Blue Jays were tied with defending champion Messiah College at 25 points, with the Falcons taking two first-place votes and Elizabethtown one. Rounding out the poll are Widener University (20 points), Albright College (15 points) and conference newcomer Arcadia University (11 points).
