Back to top 9/30/2008 Brooke Dotterer's hat trick leads Etown over Misericordia ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Tuesday, September 30, 2008 Elizabethtown 4, Misericordia 1 DALLAS, Pa. --- Senior Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) recorded her fourth career hat trick as Elizabethtown College posted its sixth straight victory with a 4-1 win at Misericordia University on Tuesday night. Dotterer scored in the 29th, 51st and 64th minutes for the Blue Jays (8-2-1 overall) and became the fourth player in program history to reach 40 career goals, joining Kristy Wade (68 from 1996-99), Amy Hyde (63 from 1989-92) and Andrea Thompson (40 from 1997-2000).Dotterer, who recently became the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career points, passed Thompson (103 points) for third place on the Elizabethtown career scoring list with 106 points. Sophomore Erin Stone (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) also scored for the Blue Jays, who led 2-0 at halftime before the Cougars (3-7 overall) got on the scoreboard three minutes into the second half on a goal by Lauren Payne. Dotterer opened the scoring at 28:02 before Stone gave Elizabethtown a 2-0 lead just 45 seconds before halftime off an assist by junior Erin Scott (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan). Payne cut the Elizabethtown lead to 2-1 at 48:02 off an assist by Elizabeth Lipovsky, but Dotterer responded at 50:19 and 63:22 to increase her season total to a team-high seven goals. The Blue Jays finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots over the Cougars, while the teams took three corner kicks apiece. Senior Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) played the first 70 minutes in goal for Elizabethtown and made one save, before yielding to sophomore Kristen Kelly (Bensalem, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) who played the final 20 minutes. Roberts) scored in the 27th minute to give Elizabethtown College a 1-0 victory over Stevenson University in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Ira R. Herr Field. Playing in intermittent downpours, the Blue Jays (7-2-1 overall) picked up their fifth straight shutout win and fourth consecutive 1-0 victory when Dotterer fired home a shot from the top of the box for her fourth goal of the year at 26:24.Elizabethtown outshot the Mustangs (6-3-2 overall) by a 14-6 margin and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Elizabethtown nearly won the match at the end of regulation, but a free kick by senior Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) went into the net after time had expired. The Wolverines (3-4-0 overall) countered with a header at the end of the first overtime period that was saved at the horn to send the game to a second overtime session. Jays to three wins last week. She made three saves in a 2-0 win over
York on Tuesday, finished with six stops in a 1-0 win at Delaware
Valley on Thursday, and saw four shots in a 1-0 double-overtime win at
Moravian on Saturday. Freeland went 288 minutes, 26 seconds without allowing a goal on the week, and has gone 327 minutes, 35 seconds since last surrendering a goal. She has a 0.85 goals against average and a .794 save percentage on the season for the Blue Jays (5-2-1 overall). Sophomore Mallory Murphy (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and junior Christina Sheppard (Millville, NJ/Millville) scored for the Blue Jays, who held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 only to see the Seahawks rally twice. Murphy opened the scoring just 4:20 into the contest with as she took a long pass from senior Carly Hoskins (Bangor, PA/Bangor) and beat the defense for her first goal of the season. St. Mary's tied the game just 10 minutes later as Lauren Carrier outran the defense to a loose ball and netted her sixth of the year. Elizabethtown went back ahead 2-1 with 19:04 left in the first half as Sheppard tallied her second of the year on a high shot over the keeper, but Esparza evened the game just 8:22 before halftime, then scored the game-winner just 14 minutes later. Back to top 9/8/2008 Etown plays to 1-1 tie with Otterbein ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER #18 Elizabethtown 1, Otterbein 1 PITTSBURGH, Pa. --- The 18th-ranked Elizabethtown College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Otterbein College at the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Neither team mounted much of a threat for the remainder of the match, although the Blue Jays nearly scored the winning goal with just 90 seconds left in the second half. For the match, Otterbein finished with an 8-4 edge in shots, and the Cardinals took the only shot in 20 minutes of overtime. Back to top 9/8/2008 Blue Jays upset by Carnegie Mellon, 1-0 ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Carnegie Mellon 1, #18 Elizabethtown 0 PITTSBURGH, Pa. --- Abigail Coffin's goal 16 minutes into the match stood up as the game-winner as Carnegie Mellon University upset 18th-ranked Elizabethtown College 1-0 in the opening round of the Carnegie Mellon Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Coffin picked up a loose ball in the box and scored at 16:02 as the Tartans (2-0-1 overall) picked up the victory despite being outshot 10-6 by the Blue Jays (2-1-0 overall). Senior Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made four saves for Elizabethtown while Anya Rosen finished with five stops for Carnegie Mellon. Back to top 9/4/2008 Etown ranked 18th in NSCAA Division III poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Women's Soccer Ranked 18th in NSCAA Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team is ranked 18th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Division III poll, the NSCAA announced this week. The Blue Jays are off to a 2-0 start on the season after defeating Christopher Newport University 6-2 and New York University 2-1 in the Blue Jay Classic last weekend. Elizabethtown was ranked as high as 17th in last year's NSCAA poll, and received votes in both last year's final postseason rankings and this year's preseason survey. The Blue Jays will travel to Pittsburgh this weekend to participate in the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament. Elizabethtown will play the host Tartans on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and face Otterbein College on Sunday at noon. Dotterer tallied a goal and three assists in the two wins, as she assisted on a pair of first-half goals against Christopher Newport, then had a goal and an assist to in the victory over New York University. The Lions outshot the Captains 19-0 and scored all five of their goals in a span of just under 27 minutes.

Junior Erin Scott (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan), sophomore Elyse Carabello (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp.), junior Christina Sheppard (Millville, NJ/Millville) and sophomore Erin Stone (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) also scored for the Blue Jays, who tallied on six of their 13 shots. Russo scored her first goal of the match at 7:00 to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead, and Scott tallied just 90 seconds later off a Russo pass to extend the Blue Jay edge to 2-0. After the teams combined for just one shot over the first 35 minutes of the second half, a flurry of three goals in the final eight minutes capped the scoring. Back to top 9/4/2008 Blue Jays picked second in Commonwealth Conference poll FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Women's Soccer Ranked Second in Commonwealth Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College was picked to finish second in the Commonwealth Conference in women's soccer for the 2008 season, as voted upon by the league's seven head coaches and released Thursday. The Blue Jays finished 17-4-1 overall and in second place in the conference with a 5-1 record, falling to eventual NCAA Division III runner-up Messiah College in the title match. Elizabethtown earned a bid to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year, but fell 1-0 to Union College in the opening round. Seven starters are back from last year's squad for first-year head coach Bob Scotten, as the 1978 Elizabethtown grad takes over the program after fellow alum Barry Dohner stepped down at the end of last season after 14 years and 189 wins. Senior forward Jenna Russo is the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year after leaading the team with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points, including four game-winning goals. Fellow senior Brooke Dotterer added 10 goals and seven assists, with five game-winning goals. On defense, seniors Gretchen Geiger and Carly Hoskinsanchor a defense that tied a school record with 15 shutouts, eight of which were posted by senior keeper Angela Freelanden route to a 0.82 goals against average. Messiah took six of the seven first-place votes and tallied 43 points to lead the survey, followed by Elizabethtown with the other first-place vote and 38 points. Widener University and conference newcomer Arcadia University tied for third at 28 points, with Lebanon Valley College fifth at 27 points. Lycoming College and Albright College were tied for sixth with 16 points. Elizabethtown opens its 2008 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 hosting Christopher Newport University on the first day of the Blue Jay Classic. Back to top 9/4/2008 2008 season preview now available 2008 Elizabethtown College Following a stellar 2007 season, the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team is poised to make a run at a third straight NCAA Division III playoff berth in 2008. With seven starters and 19 letterwinners back from last year's team, first-year head coach Bob Scotten '78 will rely on his veteran roster to challenge Messiah College for supremacy in the Commonwealth Conference. Last season, the Blue Jays finished 17-4-1 overall and fell to Messiah in the conference title game. Elizabethtown earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament, but lost 1-0 to Union College in a first-round match. Leading the Blue Jay offense is senior forward Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park), who was named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2007 after leading the Blue Jays with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points, including four game-winning goals. Sophomore Katelyn Roderick (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) came off the bench to contribute one assist in 13 games last year, while sophomore Erin Stone (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs) appeared in 11 matches in her first year. In the midfield, junior Erin Scott (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) was named second-team All-Conference, scoring four goals and two assists for 10 points while starting all 22 games, while sophomore Kelly Fisher (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) tallied a pair of goals in 19 contests last season. Junior Ellen Parr (Columbia, MD/Atholton) and sophomoreElyse Carabello (Reading, PA/Exeter Twp.) will see increased minutes this season after seeing regular time off the bench last season. Parr finished with one assist in 19 games, while Carabello tallied a goal and two assists in 21 appearances. Junior Angela Candelora (North Haven, CT/Sacred Heart Academy) also returns for the Blue Jays after seeing action in six matches last season. The Blue Jay defense lost two starters to graduation, but second-team All-Conference performer Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) teams up with fellow seniorCarly Hoskins (Bangor, PA/Bangor) to provide veteran depth. Additional experience comes from junior Denise Nott (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) and sophomores Paige Minka (Avondale, PA/Kennett), Lisa Nyman (South Glastonbury, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) and Ashton Heydt (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood). In goal, senior Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee)turned in a stellar season for the Blue Jays in 2007, finishing with an 11-3-1 record and a 0.82 goals against average in 17 starts while contributing eight of the Blue Jays' school-record 15 shutouts. Sophomore Kristen Kelly (Bensalem, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) will serve as Freeland's backup after playing 266 minutes, 17 seconds without allowing a goal last year. She went 3-0 in six matches while making seven saves. First-year players for the Blue Jays are forward Alexandra Magnolo (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown), midfieldersStephanie Elwood (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) andLeigh Nevitt (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex), defenders Danni Mink (Crownsville, MD/Annapolis Area Christian) andJenny Kley (Chester Springs, PA/Shipley School), and goalkeeper Lauren Duffy (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham). Sophomore midfielder Colleen LaForge (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) will also make her Etown debut in 2008. Elizabethtown opens its season on Saturday, Aug. 30 by hosting Christopher Newport University in the Blue Jay Classic. Ten of the Blue Jays' 19 games are at Ira R. Herr Field, including a Homecoming battle with Arcadia University on Saturday, Oct. 18 and a season-ending clash with Messiah on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Blue Jays play the first of their six Commonwealth Conference matches on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Widener University. |

Dotterer scored in the 29th, 51st and 64th minutes for the Blue Jays (8-2-1 overall) and became the fourth player in program history to reach 40 career goals, joining Kristy Wade (68 from 1996-99), Amy Hyde (63 from 1989-92) and Andrea Thompson (40 from 1997-2000).
Playing in intermittent downpours, the Blue Jays (7-2-1 overall) picked up their fifth straight shutout win and fourth consecutive 1-0 victory when Dotterer fired home a shot from the top of the box for her fourth goal of the year at 26:24.
