Back to top 7/29/2009 Brandy Michael named head field hockey coach FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, July 29, 2009 Elizabethtown Names Brandy Michael Head Field Hockey Coach Michael, a 2004 graduate of Elizabethtown, served as an assistant coach for the previous three seasons under Sharon Sweger, who resigned in May after leading the Blue Jays to a 61-39 record in five years as head coach. "Brandy has been an integral part of the Blue Jay field hockey program in recent years as both a student-athlete and an assistant coach, and I am confident that she will be just as successful as the team's head coach," said Latimore. A native of nearby Grantville, Pa., the former Brandy Espenshade was an All-Commonwealth Conference and All-South Atlantic Region performer as a member of the Blue Jay field hockey squad from 1999 to 2002. She led the Blue Jays with 14 goals as a senior, and was named second-team All-Region while representing Elizabethtown in the NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star Game. For her career, Michael scored 32 goals and 13 assists for 77 points while leading the Blue Jays to the conference playoffs in each of her final three seasons. She was a four-year letterwinner and was a team captain and team Most Valuable Player as a senior. As a player at Lower Dauphin High School, Michael was a member of the Falcons' 1998 state championship team. In addition to her coaching experience at Elizabethtown, Michael was a head coach in the US Field Hockey Association Futures program and served as an assistant coach at Northern York High School. Elizabethtown finished 17-4 overall in 2008 and ranked 13th in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll. Over the last four years, the Blue Jays have gone 57-23 and qualified for the Commonwealth Conference playoffs in each season, while also advancing to second round of the 2006 NCAA Division III tournament. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown Places 13 on NFHCA National Academic SquadELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. –-- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team has placed 13 members on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, the NFHCA has announced. In addition, the Blue Jays are one of 97 Division III programs to receive the National Academic Team Award for having a minimum 3.0 team grade-point average during the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year. To be eligible for the National Academic Squad, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.
